Noise
Noisy today. I’ve just had two old 727s go past my window (5 miles, 27L EGLL). Might have been a go-around. They don’t half make a racket. Just shows how much quieter life has got in Richmond in recent years. :)

Probably not 727's haven't seen any in recently, however have noticed the Russian/Balkan contingents Tu-154's and the like going out making a racket. Could have been one or two of those that you have seen
I'm surprised they pass all the noise reg's nowadays. |
Could have been - even had a civvy VC10 into LHR on Thursday!

I didn't realise there were any!

There have been no civilian VC10s since about 1985. If it was a VC10, it would have been an RAF aircraft. They occaisionally fly VIPs form LHR.

Unless of course it was an IL62 ...

There was a JAT (Yugoslav - Serbian!) B727 lining up behind me on 27R yesterday midday. So it's not completely a figment of t'aint natural's imagination! At least with a 727 it is proper noise, not that really intensely irritating "buzz-saw" whine you get from the little airbuses - and the manufacturers say they are quiet! 777 are amazing for noise, they sail over my place in Twickenham with a low rumble - sound like they are just ticking over and they are carrying 3 times the pax as the whiney airbuses. Strange but true........ |
My late Aunt Gladys lived in Heston. Sitting in her garden with a pot of tea between us the Tridents approaching 28R (sic) were deafening, and prevented all conversation for about 30 seconds - every 45 seconds. The VC10 and 111 were thunderous on takeoff, but there was something special about those Trident that made the fillings rattle in your teeth.
