I read through the first few pages as this drama unfolded, and since then I have not read anything on this site - for fear that the armchair and fltsim fiends would all be throwing in their 2 cents worth. Here we are... this long after the event... and we STILL have people standing up and saying "he did "this" wrong" or "he should have done "that" differently".

What is it with you people?

Sully did what he was paid to do - he made the best decision he could at the time, based on his training and the options available to him at that particular moment in time.

Everyone survived.

What else do you buggers want?

For goodness sakes... get a life and and a good dose of reality at the same time!

Well it was over 2 years ago, and there have been a lot of posts since then. Perhaps you should try reading a bit more and ranting a bit less!

The overwhelming consensus of opinion, supported the obvious conclusion that this was one of the all time best combinations of decision making, crew resource management, teamwork, ability, cool and calculated thinking, outcome and luck.

On top of that, the captain used his well deserved fame to highlight the problems that were and are endemic in the air transport industry.

So why don't you get over yourself a little bit, and take the time to read what actually has been written. Better still, have a bit of sleep and then do it.

Odd, because you have posted quite a bit since Jan 2009, twenty three times in fact, including as recently as the 18th of January this year?

The few posts I read before my post talk about APU starting - good/bad... and flair options.

I don't need any sleep to see that there are still people out there nit-picking.

Sully gave a terrific interview on Bill Maher's "Real Time" on HBO last night. He's lost 40% of his pension, and Jeff Skiles has lost 60%. Airline employees are unfortunately leading the way in the destruction of the US Middle Class. Air travel is following the way of cheap imports that look ok, but fail miserably in service.

Please understand that a lot of the opinions expressed here and elsewhere are not necessarily indictments of Sully & Co.

The simple fact of the matter is that this was a major accident in which everyone survived, and a very unusual accident at that; hence, discussing and dissecting it is not a bad thing.

In fact, it is a good thing.

All of the "Well, I would have done this!" and "Well, he should have done that!" statements are recorded here for posterity for everyone to read and consider.

Obviously, Sully did the right things at the right time - everyone survived.

Discussions of what he *might* have done differently are just that, discussions. But they have value, as these discussions make people think about the situation.

Short (and thus imprecise) version being companies (in this case airlines) get to reduce pension obligations as part of bankruptcies. Pensioners are counted as "creditors" who get cents on the dollar.

Saw Sully on RTwBM. Was funny and sad. Talked about pension and salary cuts. But I don't believe we know the whole story. Also talked about Buffalo crash.

I have questions but did not see the answers in any post. After the crash in an interview, Sully reported they tried to dive under the geese. Is that confirmed? Did they try to out dive geese?

If they had raised the nose would the high aoa minimized some of the bird ingestion?

Geese were reported on radar, did they get the report of a target?

:30 seconds before bird impact he was gazing at the Hudson and reported how nice it looked. Did he mention at what point he began lo0oking out the front window again?

At around 2 and a half minutes Congressman Mica directly questions the controller about whether he could see the geese.

To which I would add, even the airframe survived well enough to become a museum exhibit.

It would have been awesome if Sully and copilot had eyeballed the flock of geese and evaded them. But then we would not have this great story for posterity.

Looks like the professionals on the receiving end of the questions there in that vid showed very very large amounts of patience.

Well that 'Congressman' was not trying to manipulate the answers he got at all...
