Overall a big improvement.
But my own biggest pet peeve remains: Could we please have the 'next page' buttons at bottom right be BIGGER? They're a little better than in the previous version, where they were truly microscopic, but hitting still requires un-necessarily precise mouse navigation. Fitt's Law says the smaller the target, the longer it takes to acquire it. This is a very important lesson of human interface design (eg see this site).

It seems that I have found a satisfactory way to ensure that I do not have to sign in each time I return to the main page after browsing a thread! By ensuring that I check the little "remember me" box upon signing in, the server remembers me until the next time I clear the cookies from IE.

No, having same challenge - but as Danny has time I'm sure he will get to it - he has a day job as well. Jumping from favourites to a persons last mails is also on the list I hope....

I've not looked at this thread since I posted on page 1. Overall, I prefer this new site. Except I still keep getting the following every couple of pages and then being unable to get in again (via XP and IE6), despite following the instructions regarding cookies (email sent to Admin):

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

etc....

Annoying as an annoying thing.

I have a recurring problem of being logged out while browsing, without asking for it. It doesn't matter too much as checking the "remember me" box means that I just pick up the previous session when I log back in. But it does mess up the function that takes you directly to your last unread post, and means that I either have to scroll up and down the page to look for where I left off, or go back to the forum page to request the page again.

I agree its easy on the eye but I wonder how many other readers have been totally cut off from responding to, or generating, topics. My only recourse was to reregister under another name but of course you then lose any personal title you may have paid for.

Still doing it. What's the problem????:confused:

I was working on one of my own sites yesterday and was thinking that the site changes here had settled down but the one thing I really missed was the colour scheme :)

Oh, I seem to be in a minority then! ;)

I'm not sad enough to fire up PSP to find out but the yellow is just a lighter version of the deep orangey-yellow, I think - from a design pov I think it's rather nice.

Even if they change the yellow, the best thing the additional colour does is as above - quotes really stand out and it helps to break up the thread pages.

Sorry, folks. I wish I could make all of you happy all of the time but it isn't ever going to happen.

For those of you with short memories or are new to PPRuNe since 1st January, these are the original colours of PPRuNe and until I decide on a new 'corporate' colour scheme, they're staying. The previous colours were the 'default' that comes with the software and whilst rather muted and plain, are very common and indistinct.

I think they're supposed to be a mix of Royal Blue with Gold. For highlighting in a subtle way I've also got a kind of Cadbury's purple to contrast with the 'gold'.

The only real change is the typeface used for the logo. You will still see the odd PPRuNe logo with the 'Stop' typeface but the new one is a bit more up to date.

Eventually, I'll have a second colour scheme for those of you with a nervous disposition so that you are not so jarringly spooked when you log on to PPRuNe in the future. :rolleyes:

Can we have that one soon please Danny. My retinas are hurting.......

Glad to see the "corporate colours" back in place, much nicer than that bland blue.......

My vote goes for this version! It's a sad fact of life that you can't please all of the people all of the time. So, at the end of the day, it's Danny's site and we should just accept and respect HIS choice.

Thanks Danny - it looks like Prune again, the default is far too generic....

Is the faint diagnonal line that runs from the top left hand corner to the bottom right hand corner of the new PPRuNe logo supposed to be there, or am I seeing things? (This is not a sarcastic question - I honestly don't trust my boggle-eyes.)

As for the colours - it's better than the generic one, although the "gold" looks more like yellow-orange on my screen. I'm not complaining anyway.

As the software offers user-choosable styles, wouldn't it be nice to offer the choice to those that perfer the "muted and plain" rather than these rather low-contrast ones. You pilots may have 20-20 vision but it doesn't apply to all of us :ok:

I can't believe the whinging about the colour, who really gives a monkey... if you can read the posts then what's the matter, or are you all so sad that this is all you can contribute!!!

Don't worry I'm burn proof, I've seen all of Danny's colour schemes and I could still read all the contributions. :p

I thought that was exactly what Danny was referring to as a future plan when he said:-As far as I'm concerned, PPRuNe is a fabulous window into the industry (for this outsider) and I'd happily read it whatever colours it comes in.

Fair point. However the default one is there already but denied to us that find the current one strains our eyes, especially when swapping focus between the various different coloured backgrounds. :{
