Ryanair Emergency Landing in Dublin

A Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin airport today. The plane, which was carrying 103 passengers, was en route from Dublin to Bristol when it was forced to make an unscheduled landing shortly after take off at 1.00pm. It is understood that a bird entered one of the engines, causing it to shut down. Emergency services were at the scene but there were no injuries. All passengers were placed on alternative flight within an hour of the incident. |

Dublin ATIS were warning of 21,000 racing pigeons due to pass overhead EIDW at 13:15 en route to Northern Ireland. Guess they are more punctual than Ryanair!. Only kidding, glad nobody was hurt.

Must have been one of those pigeons. My pigeon-spotting mate from Belfast just told me that he only counted 20,999 as they passed overhead his house. And the missing one was the one he hadn't seen before :{

Reminds me of the BA racing pigeon ingestion into two motors in Melbourne a few decades back.
They found one of those metal tags lodged in the engine and were able to track down the owner. When he found out the cost of the damage involved he claimed that he had sold the bird the night before to some guy in a local pub. Racing pigeons are usually much bigger than those knarley things that frequent the local statues. |

Well Done to the Crew
I was on the perimeter road watching EI-CJH as it rotated. Just after rotation there was a series of load bangs from the left hand engine. That combined with a series of flames coming from the engine made it quite clear very quickly things were serious. The crew did what they were trained to do and I take my hat off to them. Very well done all round. I sure there was a great sense of relief when they touched down about 10 mins later. Also very well done to the guys in the Tower. Great job.

Had an incident with a racing pigeon when flying an ATP into DUB a few years ago - it flew right into the jetpipe !!.

Are "load bangs" the noise made by the pax when banging their heads on the seat in front? ;)

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT 'INCENTIVES' WERE USED TO GET ALL 103 PAX ONTO OTHER FLIGHTS WITHIN 1 HOUR.:confused:
I'VE HAD HALF A FLIGHT REFUSE TO BOARD THE AIRCRAFT AFTER A 'MINOR TECHNICAL PROBLEM' CAUSED A 15 MIN DELAY !! |

Perhaps they are used to such things.:{ There was a technical incident (with an engine if memory serves me well) on the lunchtime FR DUB-BRS flight a couple of months ago that resulted in the a/c making a swift return to DUB. When the pax arrived at BRS on a replacement a/c some were interviewed on the local telly news and one or two looked a bit pale. |
