PIA hiring temporary 777 pilots

Hi. .. .Just heard that PIA are in the final stages with the purchase of 4 BA 777's and are currently on the lookout for temporary 777 pilots.

JustAnother777Driver 4th Mar 2002 03:36

At last, now it all makes sense. BA Keep their -400's online and sell the 'A-market' series 777's. The only question (speaking as a BA 777 driver) is how many hulls are leaving the fleet and how many crews are now going to be directed elsewhere...

aviatorpk 4th Mar 2002 14:15

What about PIA Drivers ???

SuperRanger 4th Mar 2002 16:35

JustAnotherDriver,. .. .Did you hear anything about BA 777 pilots being seconded to Asiana in Seoul?. .. .SR

Tandemrotor 4th Mar 2002 19:51

GF A330. .. .And how much are they paying?

akerosid 4th Mar 2002 21:37

Doesn't BA have five A model 772s? They hardly want to be left with one, so surely in due course, PK could be persuaded to take the fifth one?

Donkey Duke 4th Mar 2002 21:59

Wow, this sounds like a great deal. I know the region over there is really stable----just ask Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearle----oh yeah, he's dead. Who would want to take a tour. .of duty over there right now? I don't think the Pakistanies like anyone from Western Civilization---Britts, Aussies, and certainly NOT Americans.. .. .Oh yeah, someone like Tandemrotor might do it for the right price. Yeah, OK Rambo. You go stud!. .You may finally get your 777 Command---but you'll. .have to fly out of Islamabad or Karachi to get it.. .Sell out!. .. .Thanks. Donkey Duke

ajaydg 4th Mar 2002 22:08

with the sanctions lifted..it appears some of the funds are now trickling down to the state owned airline....but will it improve the service and reliability of the carrier?

Tandemrotor 5th Mar 2002 01:23

Hi Donkey D. .. .Do you have an e-mail address?. .. .Mine is available to you, if you click on my profile. How about we trade insults privately instead of boring 10,000 ppruners?. .. .You know, we might even get along!

Donkey Duke 5th Mar 2002 02:23

Tandemrotor,. .. . Nah, I like doing it on PPRUNE. You kind of scare me, like a stalker. My point was that I think it's not the best time to go over to Pakistan and fly, even 777's. But hey, if you want to go over there and fly, then it's all good.. .If you want to get kiddnapped, that's your choice----it's all good. Snap! Take it easy!. .. .Thanks. Donkey Duke

M.Mouse 5th Mar 2002 04:09

Then why not make your point in a courteous manner?

Donkey Duke 5th Mar 2002 22:34

M.Mouse,. .. . Well, I just thought it was absurd that anyone would be willing to put themselves in the line of fire just to fly a 777. The death of Daniel Pearle is big news over here in the States, and it doesn't sound safe in Pakistan. And, a playful jab at Tandemrotor isn't all bad----and he knows it's just in fun---heck, he consistantly slammed me on the AA/BA deal, and I didn't take it personally. (Not really---darnit!) I enjoy reading these posts and inserting what little wisdom I have every now and again. . .. .Thanks. Donkey Duke

LAVDUMP 5th Mar 2002 22:43

M.Mouse,. .. .Why don't you chill out! Donkey Duke makes some occasional good points. We shouldn't all have to speak Queen's English to fit in.... .. .Personally, I think flying a 777 temporarily for PIA wouldn't be that bad so long as extra security could be provided... Any chance to fly the 777 would be worth it. I am sure the routes flown would be interesting - a chance to mix up the routine a bit.... .. .I wonder what the PIA pilots would think of the situation - you would probably need security from jealous PIA pilots! Watch out!. .. .Ciao

wonderbusdriver 5th Mar 2002 22:56

slightly off topic... DD:. .. .Pakistan ainīt much more dangerous now for Westerners, than itīs been the last, say, 5-6 years. . .Please donīt tell me a poor (and I truly mean that!!) journalist had to die, for you to realize, whatīs going on there.. .. .What about the civilian drivers going into Kabul these days?. .. .Weīre all wh@res (or "mercernaries" if you will) more or less, arenīt we, rendering our services to the highest possible bidder if necessary.

M.Mouse 6th Mar 2002 04:27

Donkey Duke and Lavdump. .. .I was not suggesting that DD was not making valid points or that everybody should endeavour to use the Queens English, although heaven knows the standard of grammar and spelling (non-native speakers are, of course, excused) would have my late english teacher turning in his grave. My point was that many valid and interesting thoughts are lost in the presentation. So many posts come across as aggressive, patronising, childish or just plain abusive.. .. .Bearing in mind the WORLDWIDE and vast readership of this forum it can be of little suprise that pilots are often viewed in such a poor light.. .. .Whatever has happened to manners and courtesy? On second thoughts don't answer that.

bugg smasher 6th Mar 2002 05:52

Donkey Duke,. .. .There are many men and women here on this forum who fly in and out of places that make Karachi seem a walk in the park by comparison, perhaps those who operate in certain parts of Africa and East Asia may assist you in comprehending. As for Karachi itself, a brief perusal of virtually every major European airline timetable will show that Pakistan is visited with some regularity, and given the usual survival precautions taken by all aircrew, considered not only a normal layover, but quite safe as well. The proximity of war is nothing new (even bumps the load factor in some instances,) you might want to go there yourself for a look-see, get some valuable experience under your belt. Life is not all CNN and burgers dude.. .. .Lady Mouse,. .. .As a struggling student of both the American and British modes of expression, I generally find that the American prefers to place direct emphasis on the intent of the message, whereas the Brit will go to great lengths in making said delivery palatable not only to the ear (if indeed hearing has taste), but to the more refined of sensibilities as well. Why this is so is cause for further speculation. I myself find much of value in both methods, and tend to concentrate more on the very interesting spaces between the words. The intelligence, experience and wisdom of the speaker appears to reside rather more in what s/he chooses not to say.

Donkey Duke 6th Mar 2002 08:46

Bug Smasher,. .. . Well, I have flown to a lot of places that were absolutely "third world"----New York's laGarbage and Miami Intl are good examples here. .in the States. I've also experienced Quito, (Ecuador), Bogota, Lima, Bucharest(Romania),. .and the worst of all Mexico City. No, I haven't . .flown extensively throughout Africa, and besides. .South Africa, I really don't know if I want to.. .My whole point was that it may not be a good time to go to Pakistan right now--for anyone. That is also probably true for certain areas in Africa.. .Bogota is another one to scratch off your list.. .You probably get my point.. .. .And to the guy or girl slamming me on my proper. .grammar usage-----you need a hobby or a member of the opposite sex to help you now. Why would people other than pilots read this forum? Do you read truck driver forums? Do you? I am sure my bad grammar isn't alienating anyone from this forum. Get a life.. .. .Thanks. Donkey Duke

spannersatcx 6th Mar 2002 12:58

The a/c they are getting are UA ones parked up in the desert and not BA ones

Cosmo 6th Mar 2002 14:02

I read this forum frequently and I 'm not a pilot. As to the reasons why, well, I'll keep that to myself. . .. .Cosmo

Aerienne 6th Mar 2002 14:03

I myself have grown up in a region that was perceived to be a pretty dangerous region and kept many visitors, particularly Americans, away. When I first moved away to study I was shocked by the amount of people who kept telling me what a dangerous and murderous place I came from. Of course this knowledge was not gained by first hand experience, but rather from the media, and in particlar televised news. A rather ironic statistic I enjoyed recounting was that there were on average more murders in one square mile of Washington,DC in one year than in my whole country in five!. .Yes the death of Mr. Pearl was horrific and senseless, nothing can excuse it. And yes if has been all over the US media, probably in no small part due to his profession. But please, making your travel plans based on CNN and other dubious news sources, is blinkered to say the least.
