LOT chocolates for going around 😎

Hi...since yesterday there is a lot of buzz on the internet aviation groups about a video sent to LOT Polish Airlines Pilots regarding the fact when they cancel a UNS APP and Go Around, the management offer them a box of sweet chocs :)
I cannot upload the clip here but at least here it goes the pic.
Am i thinking "out of the box", or it really seems a kind of weird..!?
Cheers,,,Merry Xmas!

It will soon stop when they get 50+ go arounds per day! :);)

I know few guys from the management and I am quite sure that this is some extremely clever safety culture promotion, went viral. Some Airlines send similar messages after go arounds by emails or a simple thank you notes on a fancy stationery. But this is out of the box indeed. Kudos to the Safety Department.

I once heard that SAS used to do something similar; a bottle of wine for each go-around. Perhaps someone can confirm it.
I find it an excellent idea.
No one will do a go-around frivolously, but if an approach becomes iffy, a go-around will almost always be the safer option.
Management should encourage this, and this is one way to show it.

Surely a proportion of the chocolates should go to ATC who put them in that situation in the first place??

😉😁😁

so your suggesting that pilots are deliberately going to do a go around for what looks like a $2.00 box of chocolates?

ShyTorque 20th Dec 2021 01:45

It’s a clever way of letting pilots know that the company do not begrudge a go around if seen necessary. A small token is obviously far, far cheaper than a bent airframe, or worse.

the power of chocolates

Very refreshing to see this, as there were still recently some airlines in Asia that suspended or even fired pilots for going around.`
As to the chocolates for ATC, ask Swiss, the old Swissair tradition to send us chocolates still continues today ,and you may sometimes still hear on the R/T a Swiss requesting a chocolate routing, : ;)

Oh dear. I think you took me too seriously. I thought the :);) was a good indication that it was tongue-in-cheek!

From all the pilots, or individually? :)

What do the Middle East carriers offer crews for this event.?

Can pilots just be left to make their own professional decisions without needing to justify or otherwise to safety culture warriors, much less be given a box of chocolates like a puppy getting a treat for doing it's first poo outside?

Your answer typically shows that no matter what one will do, one will never be able to please everybody.
(One as an individual, a groupe, a company, etc...)

Wonder if Ryanair pilots get anything.

But it is exactly this type on behavior modern safety culture wants to abolish.. We do not need the "heroes" of the 20th century anymore, but individuals that understand and follow a company safety culture . and it is not bout justifying a decision , but on thee contrary rewarding a good one. I do not know LOT internally but if the Safety people of that airline felt it would be good to pass that message , and someone had the good idea to use chocolate boxes for that, good on them .

Cup of tea, no biscuits, and maybe a stern letter, is my guess.

The fact that a box of chocolates might be given is the relevant point. It’s only a token indication of the management’s common sense attitude about pilots making their own professional decisions.

Be aware that not all their pilots are Polish!
