One interesting part of the ministerial statement (according to the local Toulouse newspaper) was 1.5B€ for R&D into aircraft with 30% reduced carbon emissions and specifically aimed at a short to medium range aircraft to replace the A320 with a prototype available between 2026 and 2028.
As the A320 NEO has only been available for the last few years and is achieving somewhere around 15% less fuel burn, a further 30% in this time frame sound very challenging.

.... a short to medium range aircraft to replace the A320 with a prototype available between 2026 and 2028 ...

Sounds exactly like Boeing's target for a 737 replacement.

France Finance minister le Maire in an interview yesterday morning in the (French) radio RTL was talking about helping developing and hydrogen fueled aircraft with zero emissions . In fact ( at least as I understood it ) he said he was not interested in spending money for developing another aircraft with just more reduced emissions . He mentioned this was planned by Airbus for 2050 but he wants to see it by 2035.

I hope they will get a better ROI than A380.
