That may be an understatement.

tartare 10th Mar 2020 21:44

Clear, authoritative and human communication and messaging.
World class.
Should be shown as an example at business schools.

Gauges and Dials 10th Mar 2020 21:53

I believe Herb Kelleher would approve.

years ago I read the book "Nuts" and wished I could work for them. Once again, after watching this, I think that these guys have got it right.

DL, UA, and AA have announced cuts. What cuts did the SW CEO mention in his statement?

gums 11th Mar 2020 03:45

Salute!
And people wonder how SWA keeps on keeping on.
Good balance between staying financially afloat and still providing safe, affordable services to we proles.
Not a great fan of SWA, but this dude sounds lots better than the Boeing leadership the last year or so, huh?

Gums sends...

He said they are seriously considering schedule reductions in the short term, and will monitor demand thereafter. The only actual cut he mentioned was he was cutting his salary by 10% as part of an overall aggressive program to keep the company healthy and preserve jobs.

Good speech. Not many airline CEO's talk like that.

poporange 11th Mar 2020 08:20

Great speech, he showed real leadership and love to his people.

Michael O'learry would do it the other way around: how can I screw my employees using Corona as excuse... Watch this space: there will be pay cuts at RYR before the end of the month

But back to this clip: true leadership!

Callsign Kilo 11th Mar 2020 08:34

Leading from the front

I second that.

I agree. Very nice leadership. If only there was more like him in our industry!

RexBanner 11th Mar 2020 11:06

Somebody please show this to Alex Cruz. Never mind, some people have it and others don’t. Cruz falls into the latter category and would never be able to make a delivery like this.

Leo45 11th Mar 2020 17:25

Indeed, true leadership at its best.

flash8 11th Mar 2020 20:36

My god, as far away from O'Leary as one can possibly imagine, it does highlight though how bad he really is (and I mean bad) when compared to true leaders like this man who completely comes across as deeply impressive, professional and compassionate. Ironic their business models are broadly similar, yet personalities could not be more divergent.

Gauges and Dials 12th Mar 2020 00:21

I would argue that the business models are not in fact broadly similar. One makes the management, the passengers and employees all allies in delivering the product at a low cost. The other sets them up in competition / opposition.
