Iberia, Vueling and Air Europa are now under the same umbrella.

Air Europa was saved in 1991 from the collapse of the British Air Europe's International Leisure Group (ILG)

From ILG to IAG

I'm surprised that the EU competition commissioner hasn't something to say about it. It must mean that IAG now dominate MAD and routes from Spain to S America.

That is not exactly right.
Norwegian ,Evelop,Plus Ultra, Aerolíneas Argentinas,Avianca,LATAM ... users have plenty of options to travel to South America.
Some of this airlines are seasonal charter outifts , which by themselves doesn't represent anything* and they will be gone in the next financial crisis ,but* when you add them together takes away a piece of the cake in the crowded MAD market.

Others like Avianca or Aerolíneas Argentinas are either government backed (institutionally or financially).
Norwegian albeit fighting for survival has implemented an agressive expansion program at MAD and BCN.

On the other hand its hard to say how an airline with such a different culture will fit in the spanish branch of IAG.

Lets wait and see.

And IAG dominate LHR of course.

This will obviously mean bye bye to Skyteam.

Exactly. I thought I could rely on somebody to make that point. So the Spanish airlines dominate at Madrid.

celtibero, I particularly like the " different culture " statement. I remember a training session with all Spanish carriers, except for Iberia, at Palma Airport many moons ago. Air Europe people knew everything better. they thought they were the cream of all airlines. They were not arrogant, but absolutely self-centered. Good, they join the IAG Group, but they will not be a easy partner, that´s for sure.

Dont worry, IAG will soon change that!
