a good commercial...

Don't really care to get into the politics of the brand, but this is a good piece of video. In my often narrow view, aviation is the brand that got me where I went. Enjoy.

Beautiful beautiful

Yes, I remember thinking what a nice bit of photography/CGI it was when it was first aired three years ago.

Note that BA has wisely disabled comments for the video ...

Brilliant, evocative video. Thanks!

vctenderness 5th Sep 2019 09:04

Interesting to see they featured the wonderful 747 rather than the ugly kid on the block A380!

Capn Bloggs 5th Sep 2019 13:28

Superb.

"Sight and follow the BA 747"

"Err Err!"

Adambrau 5th Sep 2019 15:25

Amazingly beautiful video. Reminder how special air travel is and even though we take it for granted today I still see the magic in connecting people around the globe. Might help pilot contractions negotiations at BA too!

Arfur Dent 5th Sep 2019 15:35

Are those "pilot contractions negotiations" just for the lady pilots?

PHDracing 5th Sep 2019 16:31

I have often wondered about that silver haired professional up front....does he remember the kid who only wanted to do one thing.....................FLY!

anxiao 5th Sep 2019 17:11

A real pilots advertisement. We would fly them tomorrow with that ad. I think I got a semi when the VC10 came on, which shows my BA history.

It is a rare revalidation of the position of the pilot in the mind of the flying public. In an airline with which I am familiar they took pilots out of advertisements in 1993, to trivialise the profession for financial gain, reducing conditions and services. Perhaps the current pilot industrial unrest in BA will be ameliorated by seeing that their corporates are using them as a positive in their public relations positioning.

I have several family and friends who ask me before a flight, "How are the pilots on this airline? Are they well trained?" It looks like BA marketing have caught this meme.

probably because it’s 3 years old and predates the 380 entry.

wideman 5th Sep 2019 18:59

Odd fact: everyone appearing in that advert is called Nigel.

Yep! I caught the aviation virus at the age of five and, with no known anti-viral, still have it. Medical and financial reasons preclude flying these days, but I'm lucky enough to spend time surrounded by aeroplanes, while doing my best to infect the younger generation with the virus.

The VC10 was something else and unlike anything else (although I think the CRJ came sort of close as a small variant). Once had breakfast at Hanover with Flaps Rendall.

I've not seen this video before so my thanks to the original poster. Perhaps not so grateful for the reminder of my advance towards time expiry - with the exception of the tandem-seater biplane, I have logged time in all those piston-engined machines.

Sic transit and all that . . . .

The A380 entered service with BA more than 6 years ago.

A nice ad the that quickly summarizes the history of the company!:ok:

To fly, to serve. That's pretty nauseating when an airline strikes and wrecks plans made months before to connect with loved ones for events that are then lost for ever. if you don't like the management, (who I agree are clueless of their main assets) understand that the word "professional" means using your imagination to find a way not to crap on the innocents who pay the wages, but could decide that once bitten, twice shy.

Banana Joe 5th Sep 2019 22:26

So to hell with the right to strike, huh?

PaxBritannica 5th Sep 2019 23:25

Did BA not have any women pilots three years ago?

Loose rivets 6th Sep 2019 00:14

Walking past Pan Am's first office in Key West is very thought provoking. Such a small wooden building.

Living the dream. I got my pal's permission to post this a while back. It shows the dream in a young pilot's eyes.
(it was in the front seat of this that he managed to scare the bejeebers out of me. When we landed I was hooked.)
