At the end of the day (when the black stuff runs out), flying will become the luxury of the rich and famous once again. No more 5 Euro promotional lo-co promotions to get you on board. I wonder if future generations will look back and curse us for not using oil more sensibly and doing more to ration it.

China’s power industry calls for hundreds of new coal power plants by 2030 Under the proposal, the country could add a large coal power plant every 2 weeks for the next 12 years
China is not alone India is also building coal fired power stations.

It's curious that there's so little outcry over China's expanding CO2 production. The state is currently building over 30 gigawatts of coal fired power plants, and has plans for 250 more gigawatts to quickly follow.

Their contribution to the Paris Accord is to attempt to reach 20% renewable power sources by 2030 and a "hope" CO2 emissions will peak by then. There's not much sense in sacrificing the economy and foisting large increases in electricity costs on consumers in the west if China and India continue to do as they please regarding carbon emissions.

Powering the internet now produces as much greenhouse gas as global aviation. 80% of internet traffic by volume of data is to stream music and video and to enable gaming. Given that we all managed without this 10 years or so ago - if you want a quick win.......

Double summertime in the UK would be another.
