At 656 feet in length, the massive craft is expected to be the largest of its kind in the world upon completion, and it’s reportedly costing Brin upwards of $150 million to construct...As for why Brin wants to build this massive blimp, sources with knowledge of the project told The Guardian in 2017 that the Google billionaire plans to use craft as an intercontinental “air yacht,” ferrying his friends and family around the globe in style.The blimp will also find use on the other end of the privilege spectrum, according to those sources, who told the newspaper that Brin envisions using it to deliver supplies and food to remote locations on humanitarian missions.

A Google billionaire’s soaring vision of a giant blimp that doubles as a courier and luxurious personal air yacht is about to become a reality.

Job vacancies have been posted in Silicon Valley this week for top aerospace engineers to work on search engine co-founder Sergey Brin’ssecretive “Lighter Than Air” or “LTA” project.

The airship will be built in a hangar in Mountain View, California, near Google’s headquarters. One “entry level” *engineering job offers $28 (£22) per hour and pension benefits, but warns applicants must be comfortable working outdoors. Former Nasa scientist Alan Weston was appointed LTA’s chief *executive but Mr Brin has yet to talk in public about his links with the project.

Google took over the hangar from Nasa in 2015 as part of a 60-year airfield lease as it sought a secure base for its fleet of private jets. The web giant charges Mr Brin for his use of the hangar, a fee that doubled to $1.1m this year, as LTA’s founding employees ramped up research and development.

Employees say they have been told they must not speak publicly about the project. However, Google documents detailing its annual costs and charges reveal Mr Brin’s personal association.

It was revealed two years ago that Mr Brin had plans to build a 656ft air yacht, the largest in existence. The Russian-born executive has become less involved in Google in recent years as he focuses on his personal passions.

Insiders say Mr Brin hopes to use the $150m craft both to deliver supplies and food for humanitarian missions but also as a comfortable home in the sky for his inner circle to enjoy.
