Aerial Paint Spraying (?)
Here's a link to a story about a helicopter crash in California, USA. The helicopter was reportedly involved in the aerial application of water-based paint. I've never heard of this. Is this a routine activity? Is any other member of this forum familiar with this kind of operation?

Not routine, but this was once demonstated during the mid 60's in Holland when a BELL 47-G5 was used to spray white ( water based / mixed ) chalk on the glass paneled roofs of the Green Houses in the so called Westland, West of The Hague however, since the ( wire suspended ) smoke stacks of the oil fed heaters on top of the Green Houses posed a hazard, further demo's were abandoned.

A large plum of thick black smoke could be seen for miles around. |

A terrible end, but a lovely finish....

Smythe;
Thanks for the video. That's a pretty cool (pun intended) process, and I find it especially interesting that there is a similar process for removal of the paint. I would think that the application helicopter would quickly assume the hue of the paint being applied if not for frequent, vigorous cleaning operations. Cheers, Grog |
