Engine of a Boeing 737-400 Catches Fire In Moscow

The right engine of a Utair Boeing 737-46M VQ-BHZ had caught fire on ground at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport during a safety demonstration on the 17th of April. Flight UT447 was supposed to depart Vnukovo (VKO) for Makhachkala’s Uytash Airport (MCX) in Dagestan, Russia. Three passengers opened the emergency door and stepped onto the wing as they saw the flames coming out of the engine. The aircraft involved in the incident is 22 years old and has flown with Virgin Express, Virgin Blue, Air Transat, and Czech Airlines before joining the fleet in September 2010. A 737-800 was used to replace the plane and the passengers eventually arrived in Makhachkala 2.5 hours behind schedule.

Go figure.

Somewhat confusing video showing flames at engine start during pushback, then lots of bored-looking pax standing in the aisle, presumably waiting to deplane. Hard to tell if there's an open emergency exit:

Stupid question, the one with the engine on fire of course.... they wanted to get the best selfie.

Looks like a common tail pipe fire to me... just shut the fuel of and keep motoring.

Although the aircraft isn't going anywhere if by that stage someone has chucked an E/E door out onto the wing ... :O
