World's smallest aircraft carrier?
On its way along the mid-Atlantic Coast . . .
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....3e219c65d4.jpg From: It's actually a replica on its way to national Harbor . . . pretty cool sight nonetheless. https://www.bizjournals.com/washingt...al-harbor.html |
I wonder what airframe this is. Looks like a retired 747-200?
|
As per the comment in the Steve Trimble tweet... "A 747-200 painted in Air Force One livery..."

I thought for a minute maybe that old scam "Family Airlines" had finally gone operational.

[QUOTE]The next version of the genuine article will be a modified Boeing (NYSE: BA) 747-8, with 4,000 square feet of interior floor space, advanced communications systems and the ability to withstand a nuclear blast.[\QUOTE] They sure build 'em tough at Boeing! |
Considering the short runway distance, how much speeds would the barge or wind have to be going against its nose before it could lift off
|
OQU
If I’m not mistaken this was parked at OQU for a few years recently awaiting conversion to a replica. I remember seeing it on the ramp there then found this article: https://www.google.com/amp/www.provi...emplate=ampart |
You're all wrong...
...it's just a way of making a barge go faster, and reducing its draught at the same time...

Because it is a completely different aircraft than what it is painted as, given that the actual AF1 aircraft are very heavily modified, aesthetic changes alone don’t make it the real thing. Therefore it is a REPLICA. But that's correct. Add in the fact that the engines and probably anything else that would actually allow the thing to fly have been removed, and it's no longer an airplane/aeroplane, just something that used to be and still looks like one. |

Lamapaseo. The barge is equipped with a conveyor belt. |

Well, yes. While I can just about understand the reasons for robbing the original JT9Ds (though there can't be much demand for those nowadays), those mock CF6s are pretty naff:

Interesting project but I would say difficult to accomplish to an extent where the interior of this mockup would correspond sufficiently to the real thing without support from the Air Force.... |

Thanks Dave, that is the kind of information I was looking for.

It's the some of the systems that are considered 'top secret'... Several ex-Evergreen 747s have gone to interesting post-flying careers. One is parked on the roof of the Evergreen 'Wings and Wave" waterpark in McMinnville and is integrated into a couple of the water slides. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....23c68a2767.jpg Another is parked out front of the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum next door (at least is was when I visited the museum a year ago...) |
Looks fake to me.
Never seen a 747 on top of an A380 :E |
