Total nonsense... There is no other reason aside from publicity. Just waiting for the day that this will become part of our contractual duties. Good times ahead.

Sure they do - being a nice person is not a particularly rare characteristic. Perhaps not as common as it was when I was a kid, but certainly not uncommon.
That being said - I bet he puts in for reimbursement (and the airline most likely will honor it).

It’s been done. Many years ago a Cathay Pacific captain did same in a diversion situation, somewhere in North America ISTR. Daringly, he put them on his own credit card assuming that CX would reimburse him later. And they did :ooh:

Coming back from Mykonos last year to LHR on an BA A320 in Club E,
No water left and the potable water down to less than 20% for a 3h 45m flight.

During turnaround crew went across to the supermarket over the road for about 120 big bottles of water - no idea how they got ''liquids'' on the a/c, but we are in Greece...

During the flight back to LHR the water ran out, so water bottles placed in loos to wash hands etc - also ran out of loo roll, hand towels and tissues. (and all the M&S food in Y down the back was eaten by the outbound pax)

This is a different story, as running out of potable water is a safety issue, therefore You must always ensure there is enough to cover the flight ; this is generally specified in companies ops manuals.

No. A weather related diversion is just a little more than routine operations, it happens everyday everywhere in the world. I would expect he does the same then for every diversion and/or massive delays he is subject to.

I remember seeing a documentary on Ryanair where passengers were stuck on board on the ground for around 4 hours. The TV documentary show was trying to get the Ryanair captain to 'OK' free water for everybody. They put him on the spot and he had to refuse blindly eventually admitting he would lose his job if he attempted to make such a call.
