Incident at Singapore Airshow: Flight display jet crashes on show
Oops!
https://www.aerotime.aero/en/news/20...erm=2018-02-06 A South Korean aircraft skidded runway and crashed into a grass verge catching fire during takeoff at Changi Airport, Singapore on February 6, 2018. The aircraft was part of a flight display at the Singapore Airshow. The aircraft belongs to South Korean Air Force aerobatic demonstration team, the Black Eagles, which was taking part in an aerial display at the Airshow. Changi Airport clarified in a statement that the incident took place on Runway 1 at approximately 1.30 pm. The pilot was sent to the airport clinic for a check-up and, according to the Strait Times, has suffered only minor injuries. |
Intrigued to see all the crash wagons stopped downwind of the aircraft and proceeded to spray foam at the burning(!) wreckage - thus covering themselves more than the aircraft. At least the crew ran away into wind.
PS = Why take off downwind in the first place? |
The crash tenders began to move one minute after the crash and started spraying foam at one and a half minutes. Must do better next time.

From video it looks like a possible brake lockup, but hard to tell for sure. Lot of smoke from around the gear area. Glad they got him out after it flipped. Being stuck like that overturned and no exit must have been butt-clenching.

Don't think "they" got him out. From videos it looks like he did it all himself. Well done that man!

During an airshow? Yes!
|
Also the airport is closed to all other traffic during the Airshow! Yes that’s all traffic, oh and also on the practice days leading up. That’s 1 hour closures as per NOTAM. That’s WSSS completely closed btw, both runways.
One would imagine as sleeper said during an airshow you would think ready to go, it’s only an hour! |
