Following the incident chutes were deployed for passengers to be evacuated. The incident took place on the Runway 27, which has now been shut for flight operations. Airport officials said that a few guiding lights on the runway were damaged as the aircraft swerved slightly to the left side of the runway after landing at 8.30 am, they said. No passenger was injured and all of them disembarked safely, they said. The airline sources said two of their flights from here to Chennai and Bengaluru were cancelled following the incident. |

To go along with the almost 20 pages of NOTAMs dating back to 2010. Why doesn't India ever clear out their old NOTAMS?

I’m actually surprised this does not happen more often.
Unless things have changed, you will not find a single grooved runway in India. You can get the spoilers out, but you bounce along the uneven surface with your wheels hardly in contact with the ground. Add standing water and it gets really fun. 27 is really long, but has a 500 m or so underrun. Not to mention the chance of running into a heavy rainshower anytime during the approach. Or just after landing. Expect anything, including someone stealing the localizer antenna. :eek: |

"The localiser, antenna rods made of aluminium which radiate electronic waves and forms part of the ILS, hardly has any material value and we are surprised that this could have happened", he said. Flights were today delayed by 30 to 45 minutes because of delayed arrivals and stacking up of flights over the city. |

I’m actually surprised this does not happen more often. This sounds like an airline with fundamental safety issues, like most LCC that grow faster than their training and management can manage. But monsoon rains should be a legitimate excuse, just make sure that the passengers are briefed prior to departure so that can get off if they feel uncomfortable.... |

Operating in India during the monsoon season carries an increased operational risk, like it or not. Those of us who have been there knows.
Can’t comment on Spicejet or the standard of the company. I know nothing about them. |
not only India, at least once per winter, somebody takes a trip into a snowbank in the USA as well...risk increases with operational frequency increase...the more flights in inclement conditions, the greater the chance of a boo-boo...

Exactly, and sometimes :mad: just happens. There is always a potential unknown factor ready to bite you, no matter how well you are prepared.
