Looks like Eagle was quick off the mark getting a replacement plane - just an hour. Advantage of it being an American (ex-USAirways) hub.

In my primary training, we had to go around once, due to a coyote on the runway - boy, did it cringe and duck as we passed over 10 feet above at full 152 power!

Tail number N709PS. Reportedly five prior incidents at KCLT involving deer strikes. Damage appeared to be on starboard forward slat, fairly close to the fuselage.

Personally have flown that route over fifty times, and been a passenger on that plane twice, most recently two weeks ago.

Blue Streak 5320 heard a loud bang on takeoff on 36C, said they were coming back.

They did a low pass down the runway, the gear looked good but several aircraft on the ground confirmed that something was venting off the right wing.

They took vectors for a full stop to 36R, pulled off the runway and immediately evacuated the pax. The fire trucks reported a lot of fuel on the runway.

Another day at the office, good job and great outcome :ok: except for the deer :(.

I hit one with a C-5 on a touch and go once at night. We didn't notice it but tower said we had hit it. FD came out and hosed off the gear.

er... there's nothing easy about flying an airliner with physical damage, especially control surface damage..
No doubt CLT had them fly the full Sully Star and have 4 ramp frequencies up...

Had to go around after dark once to scare the coyotes (20+) off the runway that were warming themselves on the runway one spring and wish I had never landed in Lamar, CO with 50+ rattlesnakes doing the same thing What a mess,

Surely bits of dead deer on the runway would have been too much of a giveaway!

There's no such thing as a 'deer-proof fence'. Their ability to leap esp from ice or compacted snow has to be seen to be believed. If anything, such fences can then trap such animals on the inside.

Still, at least it wasn't its bigger cousin the Moose. That could well have had an entirely different ending.

IIRC a Pacific Coastal Beech 1900 hit a moose on take off from Fort St. James, BC a few years ago. that would have been quite an adventure!

You hit an object at least weighing 100 pounds. You know you are compromised. Wouldn't you want to know what you lost before you land? Aircraft is handling okay at best, but did I lose a landing gear? Something else? Gimme a clue!
