Drone versus Flybe inbound to NQY
BBC Radio 4 reporting at lunchtime a near miss by a drone flyers on a Purple Propeller wagon . Paper bags again or a real problem? Anyone heard anything?
|
It's all over Radio Cornwall at the moment and on a thread in the Airports forum but don't know how real it is. BTW it was the multi-coloured Danish prop wagon not the purple one, although the BBC's stock photo shows a Cessna 152!

so i wonder how the hell a drone kept up with the plane? was it a racing drone? theyve been clocked at 100mph. mine will max out at 40-45mph in sport mode.
so whats the real truth here? people seeing things or making rubbish up? |
It was reported by the pilot at being at around the same altitude of the aircraft (900feet) 2 miles from the aerodrome.

Wow; add to either of these the ground speed of an a/c, ranging from 100kts to 280kts, and I would expect some serious damage to the a/c. |
This topic is pointless without knowing whether the drone was travelling in the same direction as the aircraft, the opposing direction or across the path - and were the two on a collision course or merely in proximity.

Visible at 2nm? Wow, how big was it or how hawk-eyed are the crew. I wonder if they were in Class E airspace and the drone pilot was on a VFR 'see & avoid' routing?
