Airline suspends crew after impromptu in-flight concert

In the early days of Virgin Atlantic, when it was trying to establish itself as a serious competitor to BA business class, they used to offer reduced/free tickets to entertainers if they gave a performance enroute. Julien Lloyd Weber took his cello on board and pumped it out. I don't now all the others, but I heard it was quite common. I could well imagine comedians practicing their routines during lunch. May be some older Virgins can tell us the truth.

My son was a first officer for Air Canada during the time this linked video was filmed, while on the tarmac at YYZ. (a flight other than his, and the news spread quickly)

So the DGCA wants the airline to suspend the cabin crew?

Perhaps a cleanup of that heavily corrupt organisation would be a better first step?

On of the Captains I flew with on VS was a very competent amateur magician. He would sometimes entertain the pax with magic tricks. They loved it!

The favourite trick for Captains is magically finding that elusive ILS intercept on dark, stormy nights...

A purser on BA was disciplined for entertaining some children with magic tricks on a flight.

One of his tricks involved 'fire' and he was reported by a colleague to management he was demoted!

I understand that fire is not a good thing on board, however this was a very controlled trick he had performed many times involving a tiny flame.

Sense of proportion is not always present is it?

RAT 5, wish I'd known about the VS days. In the Air Europe Glory days, I was the drummer in the AE Jazz trio. We would have loved some performance times with VS.Mind you, heavy bookings might have interfered with our crew schedules. Either way, on topic ; what a damned shame. No fun in aviation any more.Could it be a touch of the Green-eye ?

For sure, but in other industries and life in general too. It won't surprise me if before long all forms of humour will be banned on pain of death! :}

I recall a rather 'eventful' trip in a previous life at a charter company, pre 911, where some 'exotic dancers' practised their 'routine' on the flight deck of a 757 en route to Tenerife. Was all viewed as 'good fun' at the time. PC brigade would have a field day nowadays. Terrible shame.

I find it so sad that the crew were suspended for letting somebody to sing over the intercom. This somebody wasn't just any old fart on the plane, he is one of the most popular singers in India. Shame on you DGCA! How sad can you get?
