Red Arrows in danger?

BBC reports that the CAA has banned aeros over land.

Does this exclude the Reds?

The C in CAA stands for Civil, so they have nothing to do with the Red Arrows.

Peter H 26th Aug 2015 14:41

IIRC said elsewhere. By restricting the ban to vintage jets, it basically would not impact
the military [if this was within the CAA's remit.]. Unclear if this decision is related to the
nature of the planes, or the currency of the pilots.

Does this exclude the Reds?
Yes it does!:ugh:

"There are separate rules for military planes, such as the Red Arrows, that take part in UK air shows".

What safety rules govern air shows? - BBC News

There is a subtle difference between the word "exclude" and the word "include".

Fluffy Bunny 26th Aug 2015 16:23

No, because they aren't vintage and are military aircraft.

That being said however, if they weren't military would they be restricted?

I'd like to see what the CAA would say about someone wanting to display nine forty year old fast jets on the civvy register.....

Well, it's not quite as stark a picture as you paint. They may well be 40 years old but they are still constantly operational & have been maintained, presumably, to the highest & most exacting standards. Haven't they ?
And, are they still the original airframes from the first season ?
