Emirates B777 collision with Hak Air B734

RH Wing of the aircraft came into contact with the Rudder of a Hak Air B734 on taxi out resulting in damage to both aircraft, full investigation pending. Pax disembarked and back to HOTAC for night stop pending dispersal on other EK services today.

I was cleared to line up in Lagos one afternoon with a B737 on about 500' finals (in clear blue skies). I don't know who squealed the loudest - me saying "Don't think so" or the pilot of the 737 saying "Nooooo!!".

The EK -200LR was taxiing exactly where it should have been towards the runway. The HAK air was pushed back right as it was about to pass!

What else do you expect in lagos? Its not rare to see non authorized personell walking around the runways/taxiways/ramps as they try to figure out which wheelwell to hide in!

It's been a while since I visited Lagos, but I remember that armed police in a 4WD had to follow each aircraft out to the threshold for a while because gangs in pick up trucks were opening the aft cargo holds while the aircraft was taxiing and throwing the baggage out onto the taxiway, to be scooped up and thrown into vehicles, which promptly skeddadled off beyond the wire.

Wasn't it Lagos where the Lufthansa crew were robbed on the way to (or it might have been from) the crew hotel in the crew bus? The robbers took everything - including the uniforms the crew were wearing.

Not my favourite layover. I have a recollection of the main bar in the crew hotel - it was like a scene from that Nicholas Cage movie about the gun runner (the one where the AN2 is stripped down to its wheels overnight). Seth Efrican mercs (or, far more likely, wannabes trying their best to look like Seth Efrican mercs) and local hookers, all sitting in a cigarette-smoke cloud that was almost down to waist level.

For sure airport authorities should be held liable.

Ramp congestion has often led to improperly parked aircraft in that corner of DNMM,and as a result wide bodies on that taxiway should long ago have been forbidden.Am surprised they got that far as this is quite close to the threshold,and they would have taxied quite a distance past congested ramps where the creed for most crews familiar with that taxi way was "left of centerline"

Considering the same incident occurred with virgin atlantic A340 at the same spot in recent times,i would hope EMIRATES should hold the airport/atc liable.

Bunch of trainees in ground control doesn't help either.

So was that 737 moving at all? The twitter pic looks like the 777 taxied to the maximum left of the twy. Did they try to pass by the 737 parked too far out?

I've always trained, don't believe what you hear from ATC, always be suspicious and don't trust any b... ard. Treat nearly all of Africa as non controlled airspace, do your own traffic awareness assessment and separation.

737 was stationary.

This was at least some pretty good advertisement for the upcoming folding wingtips on the 777X.

No excuse, I know, but some here might not be aware that you can't see the wingtip on a 777 from the cockpit.

Airplanes are usually parked on the eastbside of the Eastern taxiway, even though there is not enough space. This is why my company does not use 18L for T/O due to taxi restrictions.

I wouldn't prefer any aircraft if the pilot can not see the wingtip, definitely when operating from airports like Lagos. Most of the places in West Africa you are your own even when there is a marshaller
