Volcanic ash closes Costa Rica's Juan Santamarķa International Airport
Am in Costa Rica currently - lots of gritty ash falling in the central valley.
BREAKING: Volcanic ash closes Costa Rica?s Juan Santamarķa International Airport ? The Tico Times Hopefully open tomorrow morning!! |
What ? ... and US/Canadian airspace not yet closed just in case the ash drifts there and causes all jet engines to fail immediately ? Where are the regulators when you need them ???
Seriously, hope dust settles soon, literally. |
Operation is normal at this moment, after some small ash eruptions at Turrialba Volcano. I could see some aircrafts who got their engine intakes covered during the layovers and the most significant event was on friday the Iberia A346 (biggest commercial aircraft that arrives to SJO) departing from runway 07. Ground personnel tried to clean the runway as much as possible but after all those Trent 500 have a lot of power and they left a huge dust trail all over the airport.
