Onions 10th May 2002 08:47

It can't be that major if an hour after the first post there's nothing on the BBC?

BahrainLad 10th May 2002 08:52

Just heard on Radio 5. Terminal evacuated, fire apparently out.

Probably a chip-pan in the Burger King (remember LHR T1?).

calmdown 10th May 2002 08:57

whole terminal has been evacuated and roads have been blocked off. bhx have no idea when the terminal will be re-opened.

Smokie 10th May 2002 09:03

Perhaps it was one of the hot headed security guys or a BA duty manager jobs worth who couldn't take it any more and spontaenously combusted ! ! ! !

Big Tudor 10th May 2002 09:07

Terminal evacuated, all inbounds and outbuonds suspended TFN.

ALAPT - BHX = Birmingham International Airport, UK. Bout half way between Manchester and London.

from BBC wires:

Flights from Birmingham Airport have been severely disrupted following a fire at the main terminal.

The terminal has been evacuated following the blaze.

Fire crews were called out to the airport just before half past eight this morning after a small fire broke out in the basement of a service corridor.

The corridor's sprinkler system managed to extinguish the fire after a number of pallets caught light.

Crews from three stations were quickly at the scene and are currently dealing with the situation.

It's not yet know how it'll affect flights from the main terminal and there's no offical word yet on when the terminal might reopen.

BHX now re-opened !

Apologies to anyone there who has been obstructed by our massive fleet of coaches blocking coach park and terminals and many thanx to the traffic wardens for their co-operation !

Well done to all concerned in getting BHX back into operation !

Where is BHX?

Alapt asks 'where is BHX?'. Good question. London based BA admin don't usually seem to know either! HOW long does it take to receive 'Cptn's confidential' updates and HOW often do we receive crewlink messages which are totally irrelevant to BHX crew!

Anyway, after that little rant, back to the thread... BHX flights were back to normal by mid afternoon after the unfortunate fire today.

Paddington, certainly better than my 'the clue is in the header Alapt!'

If it happens at DUB..?????

If the same ever happens at DUBLIN, a lot of people will be either injured or killed. The fire alarms go off, so often that no one takes any notice of them any more.

The Airport Authority (Aer Rianta) are so lax in this regard it is almost criminal. They have a system in operation, that if the fire alarm is sounding continously...then the area should be evacuated, yet they never ever do this
