SAS Airbus A319 off runway in Copenhagen

Latest news from SAS, in Norwegian:

SAS-fly fra Oslo skled av rullebanen p Kastrup - nyheter - Dagbladet.no

Seems it happened "at the end of runway", and for once the reports says it was no panic.

Guess all of the crews at SAS has had a lot on their mind the last weeks?

Now - that's what we call a 'High Speed Turn off':) Bring on the skidmarks.............

DaveReidUK 21st Nov 2012 12:49

Great quote in that article from the airport spokesperson, which Google translates as

"It is of course unfortunate that the plane skidded off the track, but it was all very dramatic"

So it wasn't all bad, then. :)

If "**** Google Translate says" should ever come in book form it would fill volumes.

deptrai 21st Nov 2012 13:14

googles translation is actually exact, in this case.

If I was to speculate, both passengers and journalists in scandinavian countries are sympathetic towards SAS these days, and reluctant to create any more drama than SAS management already did (the financial issues I mean).

edit: I'm wrong :) The original was of course "all very UNdramatic" which google somehow turns into the opposite.

Sure,

Det er veldig mye gress på Kastrup

There's a lot of grass on Kastrup
SAS-fly fra Oslo skled av rullebanen på Kastrup - VG Nett om Luftfart

With all that grass it must be difficult to keep the airplane on solid ground.

Looking forward to the final report.

strange when you look at the lower rh corner of the picture.

No skidmarks from the rh MLG, but it looks like skidmarks from the NLG ???

A NWS fault (90`) ???

I think you are seeing shadow?

Looking at the marks and furrow from the nosewheel, and the earth it has pushed up, it does look like a 'hard over'.

apruneuk 21st Nov 2012 14:54

And as the passengers make their weary way to the terminal, it's just another day at the office for our intrepid flight crew:

Captain: "Good effort, Bloggs! Should have you signed off in another 70 sectors or so."

direct ortac 21st Nov 2012 15:24

I agree with you BOAC.. it does look like another 90 Deg incident...

Joetom 21st Nov 2012 16:16

The first post picture appears to show NLG possible skid marks.

My thought, does the 320 TXFR to APU genny when it's up and running ?

Or I guess shutting down one engine during taxi will lead to a ELEC power TXFR ?

Airbus steering and disconnect box/module has a long history, am sure the final report will tell us.

Safe flying and taxing to all.....

Cough 21st Nov 2012 19:15

Looks like RET B4 to me, I doubt the APU would be alive just then...

merlinxx 21st Nov 2012 20:54

Was the NLG castored ?

FERetd 21st Nov 2012 21:32

And so it begins..

Ecam Surprise, quote:- "What a load of crap"

The first response to a perfectly reasonable post, posted apparently by an 87 year old.

Could you not show some respect or civility?

Did you not read the first thread titled "SAS close to bankruptcy"?

What a delightful person you must be.

Passasjerer til VG Nett: - Holdt unormalt høy fart

I bet they did :)

"Passenger told the newspaper: It maintained an unusually high speed."

It actually is interesting. Recognizing the word "fart" has got to be the absolute lowest form of attempted humour in existence.

Hi BOAC

Looking at the marks and furrow from the nosewheel, and the earth it has pushed up, it does look like a 'hard over'.
I would agree the NW seems turned considerably from the direction of travel.

However, the other hardovers are a known issue and I think it is "by design" it goes to 90deg so there is no steering effect, and happens prior landing.

Of course, a large deflection can also be generated without a fault... and the usual Hi Speed exit at CPH 22L does appear benign and then tighten considerably (ditto LHR 27L).

A personal bugbear of mine - colleagues under heavy braking and still with considerable G/S, starting the turn off. End result, if they misjudge it / it is more slippery than expected, is you neatly bisect the runway / taxiway and onto the grass. Rather than sorting the energy on the CL, and if it goes wrong, just take the next exit...

Not saying what happened here, but a "definite maybe" to me...

It didn't happen in the end of the runway. It happend at a taxiway turnoff. The corner was too sharp, and he slead out.

Matthew323 24th Nov 2012 10:47

What happend was:

The A319 turned off the runway, and headed towards a sharp corner. The NLG turned, but the corner was too sharp, to the NLG just like drifted foward. The MLG's didnt leave skitmarks because they were just rollin' with it.. The pot also said, that the runway seemed slippery.

You get it now?

Matthew323 24th Nov 2012 10:49

Dude, the runway was slippery! That's all! 2 weeks ago, they came some new kind of asphalt on, that since that 3 planes slipped on the taxiway. Only one went in the grass, the A319.
