Israeli pilot in JFK bust By PHILIP MESSING and NATASHA VELEZ Last Updated: 2:19 AM, November 12, 2012 Posted: 1:56 AM, November 12, 2012 An Israeli pilot was busted at Kennedy Airport for trying to bring a retractable baton onto a flight, officials said yesterday. Shay Givony was headed to his El Al Airlines flight at around 10:15 p.m. Saturday when security at Terminal 4 spotted the weapon stashed in his luggage, the officials added. Givony, 40, was arrested by Port Authority police and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. The Israeli resident was awaiting arraignment last night in Queens Criminal Court, said a spokesman for the Queens District Attorney’s Office. The airline did not immediately return requests for comment. |
Good thing they caught him. He could have and was probably planning on hijacking the airplane with that. Was a close one.

Common sense for a Manhattan layover.

I feel so much safer with the security guys looking out for us. Can't wait for them to figure out we all have this nasty-looking fire ax in the cockpit!
|
And we let our guys carry guns onboard? What if Israel allows those batons...?
What if Foriegn Security doesn't allow pilots to have guns...? I agree...unleash the ax... And what if the ax goes missing...how are they going to get a new one out there at boarding time...? This  is getting out of hand... |
Good job TSA. My hard earned tax dollars are keeping us safe from those crazy foreign pilots who fly with dangerous weapons.
Now, where's my FFDO gun? :ugh: |
I would suggest Mr Obama should be expecting a rather terse telephone call from Mr Netanyahu post haste.
|
I nominate the TSA agent for the Charles Darwin Award:}
|
IDIOTS!
TSA, for such a ridiculous attitude and the pilot. He could had stick that thing into himself!
|
Come on guys, don't be so hard on the TSA! :)
It's a big step to go from stocking shelves in a local supermarket to being part of airport security... :ugh: |
The TSA agent was given a training that categorize the confiscated item as a dangerous one. Thus he did the job according to the SOPs. Maybe we should not be that harsed to him...
|
From what I understand, there's lots of nastier things locked in a box in his cockpit...
|
I wish you guys would stop mentioning the fire axe (or ax if you're that side of the water). Next thing you know, they'll be removed.
|
Who cares about the axe when the federal flightdeck officers pack their weapons?
|
I wonder what the average IQ of a TSA agent is. I am guessing somewhere above a dog but below a monkey. :p

Above posts are really out of order. These kind or comments are showing your own level of intelligence... obviously even lower than a dog's...
Fly safe all. Al |
