Russian cargo plane crashes, 11 believed dead APAP – 48 mins ago MOSCOW (AP) — Prosecutors say a Russian cargo plane has crashed in a remote eastern area and all 11 people on board likely have been killed. The regional prosecutor's office in Russia's Far East said the An-12's crew reported shortly after taking off Tuesday from Magadan that one of the plane's four engines was on fire. The pilots tried to return to the airport, but communications with the plane was lost shortly after. Prosecutors say in a statement that the plane wreck was located in deep forest, but rescuers couldn't immediately reach the area. They say a crew of nine and two people are all believed to have died in the crash. The An-12, a four-engine turboprop, has been a workhorse of Soviet and Russian aviation since the early 1960s. |

9 crewmembers on a domestic cargo flight?
If anyone experienced and intimately familiar with such operations in Russia would care to comment, I'd be interested in knowing about the crew composition. Do they load and unload the airplane themselves? Flying in Siberia seems like an exciting adventure, but perhaps too much so when something like this happens. |
1. Captain
2. First Officer 3. Navigator 4. Flight engineer 5. Flight radioman 6. LoadMaster 7. Maintenance 8. Maintenance 9. Service passenger It was cargo flight. |
Thank you for the information 651.
