tuifly tailscrape TFS
I heard a tuifly 737 tailscraped at TFS a few days ago. And there is a bright yellow tuifly 737 parked up looking all lonely!
Any news? |

Tailstrike at 80kts, rejected at 90 kts.
Internal reports says at 80 kts the aircraft rotated, then the tailstrike and followed by the crew rejecting at 90 kts'
Figure this one out? Maybe the "80" Call came out as "Rotate"? AC was very close to MTOW and 189 Pax and 6 crew. "Heavy tailstrike" with 2m damaged area and ruptured fuselage. |
Rotating 50-60 knots too soon... wow.

Some years ago I saw a -800 in a repair shop after what - in an outline - sounds like a similiar occurence. Root cause reported was W&B mess-up with subsequent mis-trim for departure. Through no initial fault from the flight deck, during TOR A/C pitched up so high that tailstrike ensued.
Tried to depart from popular north African charter AD. |

I'll be really surprised if this isn't the same mistake. Depressing isn't it? The same mistakes doomed to be repeated over and over again. |
Easily done - I recall an ?Air2bob? jet sitting on its tail in ?CFU? a few years back.

Did G-MLJL manage to avoid scraping its tail at TFS this morning? Twas a bit sporty for the last 150ft for most folks arriving there!!

PBD 1 :
"a bit sporty" I agree with you. We had a really serious windshear, both on landing and T/O, yesterday at TFS. TFS actually more often has turbulence/windshear/downdrafts than Funchal these days...... |

Agreed - I doubt TFS can turn a 45kt tailwind into a 20kt headwind in 2 nm, even with 'the big rock'
|
Paah...amateurs! Never been to GIB ?
|
Funchal can be closed due to winds. TFS is always open....
|
well, what I said was :
"TFS actually MORE OFTEN has turbulence/windshear/downdrafts than Funchal these days...." |
Isn't that what flying is all about though?
