Doubt the wing is made of fabric :ugh:

I somehow doubt they're going to be able to explain THAT away as a "routine inflight shutdown" :D

Let me be the first to offer aviation journalist Geoffrey Thomas a sincere 'well done' for the interview he's still giving as I write on Australian Sky News. Refreshing to hear someone who knows what he's talking about and expressing himself so well.

A large improvement on the "aviation expert" they had on a few minutes earlier who was prattling on about the crew having to conduct an emergency evacuation "within 90 seconds" of landing.

(Hint to all news networks: this is the bloke you need to call after any future incident.)

Probably carbonfibre on this aircraft?

News.com.au just came up with this pic.

http://resources0.news.com.au/images...-explosion.jpg

A piece of debris that landed looks like an engine component which has escaped. They don't work to well without that.

@soliloquy

QF what has happened to your engineering?
I'm pretty sure QF's A380 maintenance is largely carried out by Lufthansa Technik...

Helen49 4th Nov 2010 05:58

Wasn't the engine made by Rolls Royce?

skyhawkmatthew 4th Nov 2010 06:00

Yes, Trent 900.

blueloo 4th Nov 2010 06:07

Alan Joyce has just indicated all QF A380s grounded until further notice.
