BIGBAD 4th Nov 2009 12:02

more to follow at the end of the month from mainline and regional............

old-timer 4th Nov 2009 12:25

That is bad news, good luck to all who are going, not a good time of year for it,

zerotohero 4th Nov 2009 12:33

Is there ever a good time of year for it?

Storminnorm 4th Nov 2009 12:41

Perhaps AFTER Christmas might be slightly better?

old-timer 4th Nov 2009 12:59

Yes, that was my sentiment, there NEVER is a good time but just before Dec' is particularly bad, I'm in the same boat as my position will be made redundant at the end of Dec' , Happy Xmas ?

BYALPHAINDIA 4th Nov 2009 14:04

Not looking good at all then at Baby!!

And Xmas - What a complete waste of time it is, ALWAYS has been ALWAYS will be.

Xmas is for the 'Nutmegs' in the world who are already drowning in their own debts, But insist on pumping their money into it!!

It's a shame they don't pump their money into this 'Ailing' Airline Industry!!

Xmas creates more problems than anything else!!

But we have to go along with it all every 12 months, Then it's quickly forgotten about a week later.

I hope the affected staff are ok and stay in the Industry.

Xmas creates more problems than anything else!!
Yeeeeees. One of which is an awful lot of people and cargo/mail trying to get from A to B, often by air.

Good luck to all.

Is it just air crew that are affected or are groundstaff/engineering getting hit equally as hard?

Sam Crow 4th Nov 2009 16:52

Sad day, good luck to all. Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that now we are supposed to be coming out of the recession the airlines are only now cutting staff to try and save money.

I thought all was well at baby, I heard their bookings were up for next summer and they were looking for more aircraft, seems the Germans have different ideas.

If they cut services from LHR for mainline who will get the slots? Will Lufthansa use them or will they be sold.

jumpjet7 4th Nov 2009 18:02

Very sad news at Baby, especially before Christmas. Old economic wisdom said that the airline industry leads into recession and leads out. That could mean two things. Firstly our industry is in dire straits. Or secondly we,re still going into recession, a real possibility as our wonderful leaders say we're entering recovery.

My guess is a bit of both. A bumpy ride for a while I fear.

G-CPTN 4th Nov 2009 19:05

History relates (check Japan) that unemployment lags any depression with unemployment continuing to rise after the recession is over (which it isn't, yet of course).

Firestorm 4th Nov 2009 19:10

We were in a very similar situation about 12 months ago. I am thinking of all my ex-colleagues who are going through it all for a second time in 12 months. :ugh:

spotwind 4th Nov 2009 19:50

history repeats

Bad news. I feel sad for the hard working crews that once again have been led up this path by mis management.

I sometimes wonder how NT sleeps at night.

Good luck to all concerned.

Miss Management 4th Nov 2009 20:25

The company's been in a mess for a long time.
The management are famous for being well below standard, this is their fault, big time.
The previous owner had cloudied the waters well enough for no one to see where the losses came from.
Then, his own sideways involvements have clearly drained the pot.

Now's the last chance saloon.
The new owners will give it a shot, albeit with a smaller size airline than a thimble.
It's gonna become a revolving s*itstorm for the next few months!
Even those that will stay will not be secure, as it needs a miracle management, but currently it has a bunch of idiots in place. :=

dontdoit 4th Nov 2009 21:11

Fortunately, the new (if the stories round the bazaars are to be believed) owners' management team are considerably more able than the old lot.

Nothing much has changed.

I was made redundant by Midland 29 years ago........the date.......December 26th!! (Boxing Day)

I did, however, receive a Christmas card from fleet management wishing me a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!!!

Best wishes to all those affected.

NutLoose 5th Nov 2009 09:20

Sad days, but I always thought before Christmas would be prefered to after when you may well of spent a lot of money.

Pizza Express 5th Nov 2009 10:19

1. Has BMI Baby ever made a profit?

2. Everyone has known for ages that these 5 aircraft would NOT have there lease renewed.

3. The company will be wound down over the next 2 years as the leases come up for renewal. The Germans dont want them and will wind it down in the cheapest way possible.

4. My advice to anyone working for Baby is to look for another place to work.
