Britannia Livery

I saw in a rather unpopular daily paper this morning (namely the Mail), the proposed livery for the 'new look Britannia.' - Why does it have to be so European (a winking smile)?

Surely Britannia could keep the traditional symbol but make the paint work more lively 'a la BMI.' The design is 18 years old I understand, so it's unsurprisingly going to change - but why so adversely?

Bally Heck 29th Aug 2001 13:20

Group branding Bobby, group branding.

sky9 29th Aug 2001 13:30

Only one tin of paint to buy, think of the cost savings :D

Cumulus Granitus 29th Aug 2001 13:40

They can buy the 'Baby Blue' paint in bulk along with KLM, Maersk & Korean Air ...

Bobby Guzzler 29th Aug 2001 14:53

I know the old 'go faster stripes' are looking a bit Ford Capri like by modern airline standards, that's fair enough, but to totally lose the symbol?

I think it's our old german friends trying to get one over on us before the football by taking away one of our national symbols!

The group isn't going to change the name to something like 'Britannia Berlin' or 'die Neuer Luftwaffe!'

Looks like a big red toilet on the side of the aircraft to me :D :D :D

From worldoftui.com:

A smile becomes a shared sign of quality

World of TUI gives our tourism brands a clearly identifiable international look. It maintains the diversity of our tourism brands at the same time as creating a globally visible brand-world -- a shared sign of quality, of a kind never seen before in the tourism industry. We therefore selected a smile as the new logo because a smile is one of the few forms of expression that has no national or cultural boundaries. It also succinctly expresses our vision: ŧPutting a smile on people’s faces

.....so that explains it then.

Kerosene Kraut 29th Aug 2001 17:54

They applied the same "Korean Look" to Hapag-Lloyd recently. :D

antonovman 29th Aug 2001 18:35

looks like the old hammer and sycle to me ?
is that spelt right ?

JPJ 29th Aug 2001 18:39

Bobby Guzzler: Have you been reading the 'Sun' again? So Britannia belongs to a German company, who want to repaint the aeroplanes - so what? What about Deutsche BA?

It's a global world out there, and the war was 60 years ago. If you believe the tabloids, it's still going on.

Robbie-Rocket-Pants 29th Aug 2001 23:25

Ja ze "master brand" fur ze master race.

Is there a link to a photo of the new livery please ?

LAVDUMPER 30th Aug 2001 01:18

Let me guess: A couple of latte-drinking, long-haired, 30-something yuppies conceived this new paint scheme for $2 million...

I prefer the old black and white paint scheme - it's more British...

Does anyone remember the mulit-coloured BA paint-scheme fiasco????? I bet these advertising/marketing yuppies don't! Lame!

Cheers

Bobby Guzzler: remember, we live in the year 2001, not in 1940. I don't like the colour scheme too, but normally I expect a little higher level from pilots...

To Bobby:
I think we should stay calm at this point. Britania and Hapag-Lloyd get a new painting? So what???
OK, I donīt like the new look either, but I found the old Hapag also not very well done. We are working for ONE big firm, the world of TUI (or call it PreussAG if you want), so why donīt fly with the same painting.
And I think we all should not see it that way, that britania is now flying with a "german" symbol on the tail, PreussAG is a global player which has some airlines in it, and they want to have them paint in the same way. Thatīs all - nothing more and nothing less.
WEBSI

:(

PS.: nevertheless we gonna win on saterday...

eggi 30th Aug 2001 22:25

Hello Forum,

there`s absolutely no need for bashing each other on this forum. If hooligans and players want to do this on Sarurday, I don`t care. But educated people who should know that the war ended more than 50 years ago???
I`m sorry to hear that Britannia is to get the "Korean" livery, too. I was shocked when I first saw it on the Hapag 737. It`s disgusting and I`m sorry for the pilots who have to fly them. Both carriers were definitely in need of a new look, but I wonder why so-called designers always manage to make matters worse. Let`s unite against this bull****. LTU`s management made a U-turn as well and abolished the new paintjob introduced on their 320s in spring.

willoman 31st Aug 2001 00:38

eggi- agreed ! The new colour scheme looks like a cross between Korean/Maersk. We could do much better. Sadly, we probably paid some design company a lot of money to produce this rubbish !

SkytrekHH 31st Aug 2001 00:40

...looks like a German invasion on this page, doesn't it?!
But Bobby, please put your finger from the trigger, it's just a game. Remember?

SkytrekHH, [enjoying this page one more time]

El Grifo 31st Aug 2001 01:45

real bummer guys, I was still holding out for the "Socks and Sandals" logo or the "towel on the empty sunbed" Fnaaaaar

Sick 31st Aug 2001 02:07

BA tailfins - bah; Britts new livery is in a new league of banality-it looks like it has faded in the Mediterranean sunshine. I do hope they didn't pay someone to come up with this.

(I quite like Maersk DKs livery).

old-timer 3rd Sep 2001 02:58

ahh, it's simple, the paint chappies
fell off the ladder as they were painting
the BAL logo, hence the dodgy red stripe !!
no worries, get more paint & a better ladder :-)

clipstone 3rd Sep 2001 16:37

OK, so we appear to all agree, the World of Tui aircraft colour scheme is only liked by the designer and presumably the Management & Supervisory Boards of Preussag (who must have agreed to it).

The point is we all have to live with it, no matter if we're from the UK, Germany or Nordic region and I guess ultimately the other countries where Preussag has Tour Operating shareholdings (Belgium, France, Italy and Poland)

When you look at the world map in the latest edition of "unpacked" then you clearly see that Preussag is most definately a "world company" which just happens to have its shares mainly on the Germany stock exchange.

Lets hope that between us we can prove that Britannia and Thomson are a valuable part of that group and are given the chance to grow (money?) within the new group.

The Guvnor 3rd Sep 2001 16:53

And here it is. It's ummmm, yes. Well. :D :D D:

Looks to me to be bit of a 'touchup' job. Can you see any registration anywhere in the photograph. Nothing on rear of fuselage, nothing on nosewheel-doors and nothing above cockpit!

Cheers

Kerosene Kraut 3rd Sep 2001 18:27

That might be the same greek 737-500 (Galaxy) used for the new Hapag presentation the other day. Former D-AHLN don't know exact SX-reg. Will be repainted soon and return.

The Guvnor 3rd Sep 2001 18:30

Kerosene Kraut - it was indeed that aircraft. Port side had the Hapag Lloyd titles; starboard Britannia.

sky9 3rd Sep 2001 19:42

Reminds me of the story of the guy who tied his forskin to his eylid so everytime he winked he w@nked ;) ;) ;)

Ive also heard that TUI stands for
"Thats Us Inside" ;) ;)

Cannot see why anyone would pay for that.

(speling mishtake!!)

G-BPEC 3rd Sep 2001 19:54

Anyone know when the first BY aircraft will be painted? Nothing on their website about it. I agree the livery looks... erm.. less than excellent, but maybe it will look better on the 75/76? I think it will look quite nice on the 737-800 myself.

Deeko01 3rd Sep 2001 23:51

Proabably wont get a chance to look good on the 738 G-BPEC if it's true BY are getting rid of them!!!

Balboy 4th Sep 2001 01:09

Chances are you will see a 738 in Tui colours as they are simply being relocated to Britannia Nordic.

willparker 4th Sep 2001 01:34

It's terrible! Whats it meant to be? Its almost as bad as aMM's Deck Chair look!

Kerosene Kraut 4th Sep 2001 11:29

Since everybody seems to love it that much Corsair will get the same scheme. :D
Demo a/c is SX-BFP.

Enter after the Virgin 4th Sep 2001 14:42

Apparently I have it on good authority the the smile logo is supposed to resemble
t,u,i of TUI

The left part of the mounth is the 't' the mouth is the 'u' and the right side is the 'i'

call this design ? Child's play more like !
