Indeed, trying to phone my friend there. Dutch media reports a 737-800 with 135 pax on board. Witnesses report people walking away from the wreckage and no fire. Broken in 3 pieces short of runway 18R/36L NOT on the airport perimeter. EHAM's closed to all traffic.

BBC news is once again slow, Sky has more just now...

Eyewitness report

Heard on the radio a eyewitness report:

" Saw the turkish airliner lower than normal on approach. Suddenly it pitched up quite steep, but the pilot recovered and a/c assumed a normal attitude. Then the nose tipped down and it fell like a piece of lead into the field. An engine seperated and came to a rest a bit further. some 40-50 ppl vacated the a/c. a/c in 3 pieces, tail broke off, and after approx row 10 close to an emergency exit the fuselage broke aswell. No fire."

Sounded like a relatively accurate report.

It looks like no fire..........
Pretty unusual for there to be no fire if it broke in to three pieces. Could this be a rare out of fuel event? Pure speculation on my part I admit but there is no other information available at this stage.

It seems that no emergency was declared by the crew prior to the accident.

looking out of the window... rotterdam is filling up rapidly.

Interesting for fuel policies of airlines. As at Madrid, when there is a significant emergency, the airfield closes, no matter how many runways it has. Now the common alternate is closed - interesting to see how many aircraft would have nominated Rotterdam as their alternate, as I reckon 90% would. My company's fuel policy does not allow for these sorts of planning contingencies.

BBC reporting up to 50 survivors at the moment.

They are also quoting Dutch TV "dozens of survivors seen walking away from the wreckage"

I hope everyone gets out OK, although looking at that picture I would be very surprised.
