GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Guyanese authorities say a first-class airline passenger was so angry at seeing economy passengers leave a jetliner before him that he yanked open an emergency hatch and slid down the chute. Police spokesman Sealall Persaud says the Guyanese man identified as Satyanand Christopher appeared to be intoxicated after the Delta Airlines flight from New York. Persaud said Sunday that local police arrested Christoper, who was quickly released on bail after the Friday incident. Delta spokesman Junior Horatio says the U.S. carrier plans to file charges against the man for interfering with flight crew members. ----------------------------------------------------------- How easy is this to do and how much does it cost to fix? |
pretty easy to do but i would have thought the door would have been disarmed when on the ground? maybe some crew can let us know when they disarm doors on the ground.
very expencive to fix just like everything in aviation. |
Here in South Africa where I fly we had a crew member activate a slide accidentally and it was about a US$4000 excersise. Besides the cost of the plane being grounded for a number of hours for refitment of the new slide etc...

It says he opend an emergency hatch, in which case it is permanently armed, the cabin crew cannot disarm it! That is an engineering function should it be necessary.
|
emergency exit(small overwing) stays armed all the times since it's not used on ground
|
But if he's in first class is he going to be near an over the wing exit?
|
Not hard to rearm a door. Remove pin, slide lever, open the latch/press the button and away you go. Hell, even my blonde sister can do it! :}
|
I understand your point with arming a door such like the airbus. However I think it would of been the B757 if it was Delta or B767 both of which I have been trained on. Which or harder to arm for normal pax.Unless he has pushed further up the aircraft to get to an exit. Think a photo and statement from him would help lol. :ugh:

Wouldnt it have been easier to push through the queue to maybe L2 than to push through the queue to L3 or whatever...you get me point lol :p
