Air France 777 unscheduled diversion cause inflight shutdown

Lajes (Azores/Portugal) - An Air France plane makes an uncheduled diversion to Lajes international airport (Terceira Island), in Azores, due to engine mechanical troubles on one of the two engines of the plane during a flight over Atlantic Ocean.

The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, registration number F-GSQT, flight number AF620, which was supposed to operate between Paris-Orly (France) international airport and Pointe-à-Pitre-Le Raizet (Guadeloupe/France) international airport with a total passengers number not know at this present time, took-off around noon and was over the Atlantic Ocean when an engine incident occurred. The pilots requested an emergency diversion to Lajes.
The plane landed without further incident and no injuries. No more information were released by the company about the engine problem. The passengers have been disembarked and placed in some hotels to wait for the next departure, the day after.

I think you'll find the AF 777-300 has the GE90-115B engines. Not Trents.

B777???

Just a question.:confused:

How come when an Airbus is involved in an incident it sparks a huge debate amongst everyone....airbus vs. boeing!!! rah rah rah.

But when the B777 has an incident, which have been numerous of late, the reaction is tepid at best?

One last thing...should we be concerned about the B777 over water?
:rolleyes:

One last thing...should we be concerned about the B777 over water?
Not while it's still *over* the water...:}

They do seem to have had quite a few engine shutdowns recently, in addition to the as-yet-unsolved lack of power issues that affected BA038 and some others.

Whats wrong with you lot?

LPLA is a standard ETOPs ERA, have none of you ever been involved in Flight Operations actual and/or planning?

PPRuNe Towers 1st Apr 2008 15:40

Here at the Towers we make that number 5 on Air France's GE90 sick list.

Scuttlebutt has it that a loaner engine doing the rounds to allowed mods somehow got ignored and things went twang in the same place repeatedly. You might question ETOPS stats - we couldn't possibly comment.
