another bizarre sacking

Apologies if this is old news but has anyone heard about a guy being sacked from BA cityflyer for letting his girlfriend's dad in the cockpit?

All I know is the guy's Scottish and the girl's called Sam something. Flight to Italy apparently maybe Malpensa. http://www.pprune.org/forums/images/...n_rolleyes.gif

Well I'm glad you've narrowed it down for us!

Nothing bizarre about it at all. If the guy broke BA's cast iron and very clear rules on cockpit access then he risks getting that sack.

Visits after landing?

Are visits to the cockpit allowed on landing?
Whilst disembarking as SLF, I've noticed the cockpit door is open.

No harm asking if my 9 year old can have a quick look after landing or would that ruin the rest of the holiday?

Mick
Good question I would like to know the answer to that iswell?

Flight deck restriction apply any time the engines are running, so I am sure your son would be more than welcome once the engines have been shut down.

cal900 5th Mar 2008 18:25

So who would tell his seniors?

Dairn 5th Mar 2008 19:55

It is not illegal for anyone to visit the flight deck with the Capts permission and when the aircraft is parked with the engines shut down. Any time the engines are running the door must be locked and access is controlled as per the security requirements in the uk.

I've had many visits from (mostly) young people who don't get the chance to visit during the flight any more, something most pilots used to enjoy and encourage.

Old news and does it really have to be discussed on here? Catchme what is your interest in this?

hughesyd 5th Mar 2008 21:19

hmm yes marlowe i see your point, why discuss it on a pilot rumour network forum!, i mean the gall of the lad to even bring this subject up of flight deck access! of which none of us have a opinion!

How dare you sir!!:ugh::ugh::ugh:

marlowe 5th Mar 2008 21:26

i dont think the possible flightdeck intrusion is what catchme is really wanting to discuss here!!

Hufty 6th Mar 2008 07:01

Getting back to the first post, is this story true?

Right Way Up 6th Mar 2008 08:10

:D

With this type of understanding of written English I wonder how well understood are FCOMs, SOPs, charts, etc for some people.

ICAO levels anyone?:E

unless you're flying with oldtora it seems that many airlines permits visits whilst on the ground with the engines shutdown...mine certainly does and like many others here I've had lots of interested children (and adults) come tosay hello after the flight. Stick'em in a seat, put a hat on and let their parents take a photo...kind of makes the trip for the youngster in question.

marlowe 6th Mar 2008 13:10

barke its not that i dont like the thread, discuss it as much as you like. But i know the background to this and for a newbie to the forums with only one post to their credit seems an odd subject to raise after this length of time.

Like Peter Graves, in "Airplane"? ;)

everynowandthen 6th Mar 2008 14:46

Marlowe,

Why on earth does the fact that he is a "newbie to the forums with only one post to their credit" make his question less valid?

Perhaps all newbies should make their posts in carefully designated, less august forums until they have achieved the sufficient amount to be allowed to raise a question/express an opinion here? A form of cadetship.

marlowe 6th Mar 2008 14:59

Well everynowandthen it seems as if catchme thinks they are in possesion of some of the facts and have come on here looking for someone to spill the beans on the story. I dont think that they are looking for a debate on the merits of a locked door policy more to cause mischief, am i right or am i wrong catchme?

everynowandthen 6th Mar 2008 15:11

I agree & disagree. Plenty of threads start of in a similar way but, in line with your curiousity, there is generally a little bit more information offered.

I did take issue with you pigeonholeing (?) newbies however. How many posts someone has made says very little about them, in my opinion.

Anyway, perhaps I'm being anal & this has no relevance to the thread so I'll shut up.

marlowe 6th Mar 2008 15:20

I had no intention of pigeonholing newbies i just feel that catchme has an ulterior motive here. I dont believe that the locked door policy is what they really want to debate, infact i believe that it is only gossip that they are after, i am prepared to be wrong so catchme am i?
