would YOU give ME a jumpseat

Hello all. I am a european national, born and brought up there. However, my great grandfather was arab and I hence maintain an arab name and appearance, though normally mistaken for other races eg south american, italian, pacific islander!!
As with most decent people of all nationalities and races, I abhor all terrorism, especially in our environment.I trained in the US and have an FAA ATPL with type ratings and have been a captain with a major european airline for 8 years. I have always had great cooperation when jumpseating in the US, but now wonder in the light of current events what response I would get with my name requesting a "jump" either in the cockpit OR cabin seat only.
Your honest opinions appreciated. Regards to all in difficult times.

I'm afraid not. We are now forbidden to give any member of the public a Flight Deck jump seat, nor are visits allowed. The fact that you fly for another airline is irrelevant. Sorry.

Unless you're Company, regardless of your name, sorry no.

fly fly fly,

Since you fly for a major european airline, I would think that you already know the answer to your question.

What is your own airline's current policy on jumpseaters?

Seems to be slight misunderstanding of my question. To be more blunt, if you were the captain of a flight and an arab looking pilot with arab name, but US nationality flying for a US airline, came and asked for a free ride in the cabin, assuming he had all the relevant id and licences and qualified under your airline's CURRENT criteria to sit in the cabin, would you feel uneasy about it??? In other words, do you feel your impression of LEGITIMATE arab descended pilots, in the US or anywhere around the world, flying for reputable airlines, has been compromised?
Comments will speak volumes.
Regards
ps. my airline has banned all public visits, locks the door now, and "free jumpseating" like in the USA has never existed in any case!

fly fly fly,

Your story is changing a little.

Assuming you are really a Captain, I am sure you know as well as anyone that everyone is on high alert these days.

Since all of the recent highjackers were of arabic background, any prudent Captain would see it as one, but just one, piece in the puzzle.

I hope you, Captain, will use the same kind of judgement when you are making a decision.

And my airline have about 60 middle eastern pilots, a couple of which are close friends of mine. They, and I, deal with facts and realities, not feelings and political correctness.

Not easy to answer.
Some of us here in the US are indeed trigger happy when it comes to Arabs in general and Arab pilots in particular.
The Arab requesting a jump-seat could be a "Sleeper".
Not very likely of course, but before September 11th, nobody thought it was very likey that a bunch a lunatics would even THINK about hijacking airliners, then point them into buildings.

I would change my name and lay low in the terrain, especially not requesting cockpit jump seat here in the US.

But of course, you are indeed entitled to ask: It is just my personal opinion that the timing is not the best....
