Don't expect more news on this as the airport was cordoned off to all media people. Easy to do this as end of runway 30 also serves as a military (Philippine Army) camp. And owner LT readily distributes envelopes to keep journalists looking the other way.

Capt of the flight a veteran airbus 300/320/319 pilot. He retired age 60 and was rehired to fly the airbus 320. Extent of injuries not yet known.

Ouch! Not again! When will they ever learn?

Pilots did not panic? How did they know the poor guys did not panic? Did they just accept their fate and sit there when they realized that the runway end of RWY12 is about to pass under them? Well, of course it's technically not panicking, just "keeping the situation under control". My oh my, these guys really spend a lot for public relations. See how they put a positive note on this incident? Next thing we'll read from the papers is that the passengers were treated very nicely by the ever efficient ground staff and that it was not in any way a dangerous accident, just a little overrun. The plane will be repaired and flown back to Manila like it just suffered a flat tire or something...same old story.

I'll wager a bet it won't be the fault of PAL nor the aircraft, not even the pilots but the runway itself that will get the blame for this incident.

At least nobody died, that's a relief....

I am really sorry to hear about this accident. Another PAL A320 overrun. In 1998 one of their 320s did the same, killing 3 on the ground. That aircraft was damaged beyond repair. This one doesn't seem that bad, but maybe the whole nose section is broken, engines off, belly significantly damaged, etc.

Can someone check the weather and the length of the runway, including stopway, clearway?

You'll all have a laugh when you see pics of the over-run and read this:

"A spokesman from the national carrier said the PAL A-320 Airbus plane that came from Manila may also be slightly damaged. The spokesman, Rolando Estabillo, said the plane's return flight to the capital may be cancelled to give way to a thorough safety inspection of the aircraft."

Great report as BOAC said i am glad they are going to do a thorough safety check!! I do not think this a/c is going very far for some time. Pleased to see no fatalities.

both engines suffered extensive damage, so much for a slight damage. :}
good to know nobody got hurt bad.

The news report says the runway is 1.2 km long, this could wellexplain the over run!!

That's got to be on the short side for a 320 hasn't it? :\

See? I told you they'll be pinning the blame on the runway :} . That piece of runway is actually a lot more than that. If I remember it right, it's about 1,900 meters or more. But then again, you know how media people tend to overlook such information in their quest to get the news out faster than the competition.

Initial info is 5249 ft and almost sea level. Here we go again..................

PAL flight 475, departed Manila (MNL) about 05:10 in the morning on a flight to Butuan (BXU).
The A320 landed at Butuan's single runway 12/30 (6,450 feet long) and overran. The airplane went down a small slope and ended up between trees.

Pics of the aftermath are on Flightglobal here. Doesn't look too much like minor damage to me - looks a bit like a nose gear collapse...

Glad there were no fatalities, I fear that had there been a post "incident" fire, the outcome could have been a lot worse!
