More drunken antics at BA!

2 female members of the BA Concorde re-launch team are facing disciplinary proceedings following complaints, made by Cabin Crew, that they were drunk and argumentative on a recent BA flight.

The 2 Waterside staff, both with less than 2 years employment at BA, were travelling from JFK, in First Class on high priority duty tickets. Apparently, they drew attention to themselves by their loud demands for First Class wash bags and more champagne. When the First Class purser and the CSD asked them to behave themselves, they became argumentative.

The women invovled claim that they were meerly unwinding, following the stressful re-launch of Concorde.

I find this sort of behaviour to be appalling during the present time. These 2 should be fired immediately (and if they had been Flight or Cabin Crew they would have been!). This is a stressful time for everybody in the airline industry - especially those people who work on the front line - and things are not made any easier by a couple of morons from Waterworld mis-behaving themselves. What were they doing in First anyway? Many of our corporate clients are down-grading their travel class, shouldn't BA's office staff be doing the same?

It strikes me that this is yet another example of the mentality of the head office staff at Waterside. They are all so far removed from the front line and are a massive drain on BA's finances.

Unfortunately, the rot starts right at the top, as the BA board is even further removed from the front line. The poor board needs to keep offices in central London, so that they can meet without having to go anywhere near Heathrow. They're probably afraid of bumping into someone that doesn't agree with their idea of running the company! (And shouldn't they have resigned along with Ayling?).

Come on Rod, swing your axe on these managers and focus on the core issue of running an airline and not some feng shui club for underworked civil service and marketing types.

This is an outrage! They should of course be treated in the same way as other staff accused of this sort of behaviour. The company should enthusiastically brief the press off the record and include as many unsubstantiated allegations as they can. They should then introduce sweeping measures designed to humiliate and undermine the status of the groups involved by issuing directives such as 'pilots must not be sold beer at German outstations'.

Furthermore they should all be sacked, after all fair's fair is it not?

raitfaiter 18th Dec 2001 20:15

Thanks for posting this Hot Wings, we need to criticise firmly this sort of behaviour.

Off with their heads!!!

heavy_landing 19th Dec 2001 00:38

How absolutely terrible.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

rhythm method 19th Dec 2001 03:30

And why were these Waterworld spongers asking for first class wash bags? That is currently a BIG NO NO in the drive to reduce costs (even us poor relations in BACE have orders not to take anything if we're travelling in Club so that is an instant dismissal!!!)

Far too many chiefs in this tribe nowadays.

They think that's stress, try living in the south east on 13,000 salary and not knowing if you'll have a job come spring because these people are reviewing your position.

I need about three weeks off with beer paid for to UNWIND my landlord demands it (and I'm not talking about the rent).

fruitbat 19th Dec 2001 15:19

Take away their Waitrose loyalty card and cast them out into the real world....

Egg Mayo 20th Dec 2001 00:22

Hold on, a few washbags ain't going to save that much, is it? BA used to pour thousands of pounds of "poor" wine down the drain down the drain as it didn't taste "quite right" at 35,000 feet. No doubt there are other spending excesses abound.

We simply CAN NOT have people having fun on Company time. Especially middle management.
What next?
Passengers enjoying their flights?

Then we aren't charging them enough.
What an outrage!

... and Heaven forbid; any one of us should be so human as to err!!!

G.Khan 21st Dec 2001 00:00

To err is human, to err in public is a sacking offence.

They should be punished with a return trans-atlantic flight in World Traveler.
I'm sure they could be allocated my usual window seat with no window, either at a bulkhead or no recline, next to the noisy or smelly toilet and last to be served any meals when there is no choice.
My crime is that I use Air Miles for all my flights on BA as I will never pay to fly with them.

Oh, good grief. It's the oldest rule in the book (rule 42, I believe) - if you are on concessionary travel, you wind your neck in and behave. You are not a "normal passenger". yOU HAVEN'T PAID. (Oops hit caps lock. Still, quite effective).

If you work for Ford, you probably don't park a Toyota in the car park. If you work for Next, you don't turn up to work in an FCUK top. If you know what shares in your company are going to do tomorrow, you don't talk to your friend the journalist.

No, you are not free to do what you want. You are accountable.

rhythm method 21st Dec 2001 01:28

Thankyou Exile...

that would be the correct attitude when travelling sub-load HOWEVER these two plonkers were on duty travel, so their attitude is even WORSE!!!

Bringing shame and disripute (spelling??) upon the company should be a HANGING OFFENCE never mind sacking!

As I said, the current policy for reducing costs includes reducing extravagance even when on pleasure travel but when on duty travel it should be even more important to resist the urge for placing unreasonable demands upon the finances of a company already suffering from the economic downturn. Rant over!

126.9 21st Dec 2001 16:29

Punish them, and punish them GOOD! I reckon they should be sentenced to a lifetime of travel on BA drinking that p!ss-poor excuse for wine that's served up on their flights! :)

Human Factor 21st Dec 2001 18:38

Exile,

Spot on!! Show them the door.
