A/c On Takeoff Lost Engine. Fod On The Runway. A/c Currently Dumping Fuel

Any idea what aircraft type and airline? Saw it take off and stay LOW out of sight.

LHR single runway ops.
 

It was due to a Royal Brunei B767-300 experiencing some kind type of engine probs shortly after rotation I believe.

A colleague on the ramp heard several loud bangs and saw smoke coming from the No1 engine of the aircraft.

Hope all went well.

Landed safey, single runway ops due large amount of fod on runway.

All inbounds and outbounds were held for a short time to keep the other runway clear for the a/c to return

Huge delays in the sky, large amount of flights air holding.

Large slots for deps for EGLL this evening.

A/C Departing LL will suffer also due backlog.

Any info on cause of this, any one working at LL speak to ops there??

The RB B763 rotated about 1010L and at about 300ft a number of loud bangs were heard and flames observed out of the No 1 engine. Aircraft climbed on runway heading and initially at 1000ft, eventually climbing to 3000ft. The a/c deposited a large amount of smoking debris on 27R and the grass areas next to 27R these requiring fire service attention.
There was a concern that debris may have struck a BA 747 holding on the adjacent taxiway, so an Aircraft Ground Incident was then put on, but upon inspection no immediate damage was found.
After approximately 15-20 mins in the air and NO dumping, to my knowledge, an overweight landing was performed on 27L. The aircraft vacated and spoke with the Fire Service, the Flight Crew were concerned about rising brake temps but these stabilised upon further taxi. The A/c parked on a remote stand with no further incident.
BUT, due to a what appeared to be a fingertip search of 27R to retrieve all the debris the runway was shut until approx 1205L. There was at least 2 hours start-up as a result.

I'm sorry, but the picture of the ' so called engine involved ' is in no way from a B767! Way to small an engine. Looks to me more like a MD engine or small engine

Looks to me very much like a 767 engine......a look into the tailpipe.....

:rolleyes: Not if you're looking up the tailpipe at the core of the engine. What you're seeing are the last stage of the turbine blades.

thought that it wouldn’t be possible to accept distress aircraft at LHR anymore due to overfly of the city :confused:

Thats exactly what it looks like when on the stand after arrived at the gate after the engine failure. Its a B767 PW engines.:)

Seriously thought, if you have an aircraft that needs to get back on the deck as quickly as possible, you're not going to send it to another airfield.

Not sure a pretty full 767 losing an engine just after rotation should count as "action"!!

Well done to the crew and all at LHR ATC. It must have been a tough afternoon for you all.

It was mostly "inaction" for most of us for quite a while, and then no stands when we got back. Almost a usual day....!

Listened in on tower and fire and I must say the crew sounded very calm and professional. Well done chaps.

Somebody left a screwdriver in the wrong place, or something came adrift in the core?

Good job it wasn't one they were going to sell....:E
