BA have announced that they have completed the takeover of BRAL, and will merge them with Brymon in an organisation called British Airways CitiExpress. Nothing about adding Cityflyer to that group - will their merger be with EOG?

Yes, this is totally separate from the EOG/CFE integration.

But, given the way BA are dismantling CityFlyer Express, and the staff feeling towards the current integration, the announcement of this new "CitiExpress" is somewhat insensitive and will do little to raise morale amongst the current CFE workforce!

By far the majority, I guess 90%, of Cityflyer pilots really don't need any morale boosting. Everybody age elligible is being offered a BA mainline contract, the others a BA EOG contract. Everybody is getting a pay rise, some large, some not quite so large. Factor in monstrous pension payments, rock solid rosters, and numerous other goodies, plus the option to bid for LHR longhaul in a few years and the future does indeed seem bright.

Might be true of the pilots, regardless of the current deliberations. Regret the same can't be said for the 'desk drivers' who keep receiving mixed information and, for many, no job prospects.

I just hoped that they could have come up with a better name. Citi with an "i" sounds so 80's!

And what happens if one of the crew has a lisp? It's not going to sound too good!!

New airline business set for take-off

British Airways confirmed today that its deal to acquire the British Regional Air Lines Group (BRAL) has been declared wholly unconditional.

British Airways plans to combine BRAL operations with those of its West Country subsidiary, Brymon Airways. In time, both names will be replaced by British Airways CitiExpress.

The combined businesses will continue to offer the full British Airways product with aircraft flying in British Airways livery. The new name will not be used for branding purposes and Isle of Man services will continue to operate in Manx colours.

The new operating entity, serving 59 destinations with a fleet of 72 aircraft, will be headed by Rob Hearn, currently Chief Operating Officer BRAL. He will report to British Airways General Manager UK Business, David Evans. The company will have its own Board and in due course its own Air Operators’ Certificate.

The purchase of the BRAL Group is a further step in British Airways’ previously announced plans to co-ordinate better its various shorthaul businesses and reduce fragmentation among subsidiary and franchise partners.

Rod Eddington, Chief Executive, British Airways said : “Today represents a significant step forward in building a strong and highly competitive business in the UK regions.

“We will harness the strengths of the BRAL Group and Brymon in regional jet and turboprop flying along with those of British Airways Regional, operating in the larger shorthaul jet arena.”

Terry Liddiard will stand down as Chief Executive Officer for the British Regional Air Lines Group.

Paying tribute to him, Rod Eddington, Chief Executive, British Airways said: “Terry’s knowledge and experience in regional aviation has built the BRAL Group into a highly successful business. He leaves a solid foundation on which to build the new operations. We thank him and wish him well.”

The task of combining the BRAL and Brymon businesses will be led by Louise Fowler who will relinquish her Brymon Managing Director responsibilities in order to concentrate fully on the integration.

Bringing the businesses together is expected take around 12 months to complete.
