VS A340 pilot breathalysed at LHR: WRONGLY ACCUSED

Teletext are reporting a Virgin Atlantic flight crew member on board a/c at HRW was breathalysed and arrested Bailed to appear in Court in May.

(On board presumably to avoid the ' I was just reporting sick ' defence)

Hope he took an Ambien last night...

Just to avoid everyone posting repetitive links to the same story, click here for all the stories in one go. :hmm:

Greenfinch 2nd Apr 2007 03:07

He was apparently 'dobbed in' by the security folks on Control Post 3.

996 2nd Apr 2007 04:38

If guilty, then I hope he looses his license, permanently.

Fuzzy112 2nd Apr 2007 04:43

If guilty I hope he gets whatever help and support he needs to address any problem he has and gets back flying.

................and before we go down this path AGAIN, could we please all read the sticky at the top of Rumours & News:ugh:

You have no idea of what might have or might be transpiring in someone else's life, yet you make idiotic uniformed comments like this.

Right On! :ok:

Hear, Hear, Fuzzy!

Hopefully, that is the path down which a mature and caring management will tread.

Flying Lawyer 2nd Apr 2007 06:22

The Sun website quotes 'an airport insider' as claiming the police took the pilot from the aircraft in handcuffs.
I hope that turns out to be exaggeration rather than fact.

Presumably you'd be as supportive of a drink driver who'd just mowed down a member of your family? Assuming he/she was "having difficulties" in his/her life?
(Sits back and waits for either a) "it's a totally different thing" or b) my post getting deleted!)

crewmeal 2nd Apr 2007 06:47

996 - try looking at the wider picture before making a rash statement the way you have. Whether you are crew or not I guess you must be squeeky clean and never ever had a drink 12 hours before work!! Hopefully this crew memeber will get support through the Company.

Sadly my partner lost his flying career through drink and know all too well what it can do to lives!!

'Presumably' not. When we're distressed and overcome by emotion, most of us are incapable of thinking rationally.

996 seems to have that problem even when not. Or perhaps some very sad alcohol-related event in his life means he can't now read a news item such as this without all the emotions flooding back.

Most officers at LHR are now armed, in which case the story probably isn't an exaggeration.

It may seem unnessesary to some, and I don't agree that is always needed. But armed police are responsible for the security of thier guns as well as a prisoner, and even the most responsible and seeming upstanding members of the public can, and have in the past played up.

I certainly hope that this was not a captain, if so he should damn well know better. That would mean that if he wasn't caught there would only be one suitable pilot to fly the a/c and how can you expect a captain or f/o to handle an Airbus A340-600 in an emergency by himself???

We don't yet know if he's done anything wrong.

Interesting username, BTW.

Only a couple of days ago, you asked:

Hi, i'm looking for good viewing positions for airliners and the peak times for arrivals and departures of them at EGMC. I know that there is a good location beside the Perimiter fence by runway 06 but does anyone know of or have a timetable for the times of these types of aircraft departing and arriving?. Also is there a way of taking pics of parked heavy aircraft at the airport?
And a couple of weeks ago:

On May the 24th i am travelling to New York from London Heathrow for the first ever time. I'm not very smart on aviation so Could anyone please tell me about the turbulence on this route

Sound like a guy who knows the industry inside out. Clearly a highly qualified pro....

Anyway,

As has been suggested before, some would do well to read this:

Before launching down the same old road. Quite frankly it's getting boring listening to peoples opinions on this subject, after all it's very easy to have one.

ZFT 2nd Apr 2007 07:58

John 8 – 7 is very apt here!

White Knight 2nd Apr 2007 08:00

B757-200 - If you were a pro, then you'd know it's not very difficult to handle a 346 by yourself.. That's because we all practice incapacitation in the sim:ugh: :ugh: :ugh:
They're not difficult aeroplanes to operate/fly...... Different emergencies may make life difficult, but not impossible by any means.

If he is guilty of drink/flying then best of luck to being rehabbed!!
