Gulf Air & Kuwait Airways to tieup in jet sales

Two of the Gulf's prominent commercial airlines - Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways - are studying the possibility of cooperation in aircraft sales.

The two airlines have established a joint group to enhance future cooperation in technical fields as well as training.

"Officials of the two companies have discussed cooperation in terms of aircraft sales and joint negotiation in order to obtain the optimal offers," said Ahmed Al Janahi, Gulf Air public relations manager.

"The two sides have also agreed on fostering technical cooperation between the two airlines to cover engineering and aircraft maintenance at some airports. Gulf Air will offer these services to Kuwait Airways in Bahrain, Karachi, Singapore, Doha and Riyadh. They also agreed on expanding joint technical support at international points such as Damascus, Beirut and Cairo," he said.

Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways yesterday held their second meeting of the joint committee in Kuwait.

Ibrahim Abdullah Al Hamer, Gulf Air president and chief executive; Adel Abdullah Ali, Gulf Air vice-president for commercial and customer services; and Ahmed Faisal Al Zabin, Kuwait Airways chairman and managing director attended, with other senior airline officials.

"The meeting reviewed aspects of joint cooperation and coordination in flight schedules between the two carriers at some GCC airports initially and then on a wider scale at a global level in the future," he added.

"The two sides tackled issues related to enhancing the exchange of expertise in relation to frequent flyers and incentives in addition to reviewing other key issues. Participants agreed on expanding the scope of technical cooperation at various airports," he added.

The two sides also agreed on activating cooperation in the field of training, in which Kuwait Airways will offer training for Gulf Air's personnel.

Al Hamer discussed enhancing joint cooperation and improving air transport services for the convenience and welfare of the traveling public with Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Abdullah Al Ahmed, director of Kuwait Civil Aviation Department.
