Air France to start Profiling Passengers?

I think have just heard on French radio this morning (if I understood it correctly!) a report that Air France are to start asking a series of questions of passengers before taking flights to help in the fight against terrorists. This is to happen specificly/only on flights to USA and Israel.

Is this the first officially acknowledged profiling of passengers taking flights outside of Israel/El Al?? How does this sit WRT European law etc.??

Maybe someone with a better understanding of French can expand on/confirm this...

Regards, SD.

Hi Sky,

As I'm in HKG at present, french radio/tv is not so all pervasive. Any sites on the web with text you can point me to ? Happy to translate.

When you think about it profiling has to be the greatest CRM exercise that every airline should have been doing all along. But better to my mind would be to have something - economically netural do this.

For me IATA and SITA both spring to mind, but SGS or Securicor might want to diversify. I personally would happily provide a neutral with a lot of information including my frequent flyer numbers and let the airline check with them. I would think that a digitalised photo and even other digital scans like retina and fingerprint should be stored and provided to the airline at checkin when you swipe your FF card.

For a modern industry the airlines and airports are so way behind in how to do high tech safely and cheaply - its often a farce.

The most major advantage would of course lie in all agreeing how it could/will be done. Only one of the unavoidable standards companies is therefore really a fairly independent safe broker of such future technologies.
