A380 crosswind landing
Hi all,
I couldn't find an appropriate forum to place this movie. I don't think any comment is necessary, but feel free to comment. Cheers, CCCC www.mbl.is/mblvideo/157.wmv |
Pretty amazing shots.
Saw a compilation of different Boeing aircraft doing the same thing.Where is the airfield situated as it looks like the same one. P.S.Did you see it gave birth to a baby blue aircraft whilst there.:ok: |
What is really amazing is how easy it looks to handle that beast. I understand that the plane should be almost empty but still it looks like an A319 regarding handling.

Looks like Keflavik, wind is one thing they are not short of in Iceland.
|
Pity we'll never get to see it try to get into Kai Tak in a decent breeze... :}
|
These landings looked pretty reasonable to me, but I have seen many clips that look like this may not be the most forgiving of a/c to land in bumpy weather. I hope that gear is strong! I'll put my money on it being the reason for the first bent 380, for what its worth.

That's not a cross-wind landing.........this is a cross-wind landing.:ok:

Well, that's his crack at the Blue Angels done, then... :{
From the still, I do like his 'advanced-driving' skills - "keep the wheels turned to where you want to go" as my AD instructor kept yelling at me!! |
Ah, those new airliners just fly themselves, don't they..... No need for old-fashioned stick-and-rudder skills!
|
That was pretty impressive- once I'd watched it a second time to work out just how much drift it had to cope with.
|
Whether the single seat (as opposed to gazillion seat) landing was crosswind or not, the pilot would, on coming to an upright stop, no doubt have been relieved not to have, hmm, flipped the bird during the performance thereof.
|
Smooth!
For a wobbly one, have a look at the A380 landing at LHR from a while ago here. Full right rudder aye.:} |
Some very nice pictures here from the A380 visit to Keflavik.
The crosswind component was apparently at around 40-50 kts. http://www.verslo.is/baldur/newest.htm |
From another website, giving the same video reference to the F/A 18 landing sideways. It appears that he lost air from a tyre rather than gaining air from the wind.
Quote from http://pjaglom.********.com/ I almost forgot...this happened at the airshow this weekend. An F/A-18 Super Hornet was coming in to land and blew a tire. It was definitely not planned, but I love how the announcer acts like he knows exactly what's going on. In all honesty though, the pilots did a pretty sweet job of getting it under control and not hitting the Blue Angels parked to the right of the aircraft. |
