South African Hijack attempt

Man Tries To Hijack South African Plane :\

17th June

BBC News Reports:

A passenger on a South African Airways flight has apparently tried to stage an armed hijack, the airline says.
He tried to get into the cockpit but was overpowered, said airline spokeswoman Jacqui O'Sullivan. The type of weapon used has not been disclosed.

The plane had just taken off from Cape Town bound for Johannesburg when the drama unfolded, said Ms O'Sullivan. No-one was injured.

The flight returned to Cape Town where a 21-year-old man was held by police.

"It appears a passenger threatened a crew member with some sort of weapon demanding access to the cockpit," Ms O'Sullivan said.

"The passenger was subdued and no-one was injured."

A passenger on the plane told Reuters news agency the man was believed to be a foreign national, but it was not clear what was behind his actions.

The type of weapon involved was not known, said Ms O'Sullivan.

Sounds like just another nutter, but hopefully not related to this thread...

Seriously, can those in the know really not resist showing how much they know, thereby needlessly compromising the safety of our colleagues and passengers?

:ugh:

As I said on the other thread, this information can be obtained by a phone call or letter to the airline concerned.
Some people really are running scared!

Apparently he used a hypodermic syringe with needle attached.
Rapidly subdued by largish other passengers & crewmembers.

All passengers will now be searched for pins/safety pins and have these confiscated....

Zimbabwe national attacked cabin crew member with a syringe in the forward galley. A paxing SAA pilot managed to take the man down. Other passengers helped as well. The Hijacker apparently wanted the a/c diverted to Maputo. The a/c returned to Cape Town and the man was arrested.

BBC news report (from above)

... when the drama unfolded ...
No journo can resist that cliché can they? Nothing as simple and direct as 'the emergency occurred' just another layering of superfluous words. :*
