Aircraft down in the Philippines
Has anyone heard anything about an aircraft accident/incident in the Phillipines? Maybe a big runway excursion ...............
|
Could you provide a source or elaborate? I'm heading out to NAIA in the next half hour...

There is nothing in the local media here and when I passed by NAIA, operations appeared normal.
I'll second Oceanic....where/what/when did you hear this? |
Perhaps this is the item you are referring to?
Asian Spirit plane overshoots Catarman runway; none hurt First posted 12:36pm (Mla time) Nov 14, 2005 By Nikko Dizon Inquirer News Service AN ASIAN Spirit plane overshot the Catarman runway in Samar upon arrival at 6:46 a.m. Monday. There were no reported injuries among the 32 passengers and six crewmembers of Flight 6K 587 and the aircraft suffered only minimal damage. Asian Spirit Inc. airport operations manager Rodolfo Garcia said an initial investigation showed the plane skidded due to water on the runway as it was drizzling when the plane touched down. Probably more than drizzling as there is a tropical depression just NE of Mindinao at present, which is just a bit south of Samar. |
PA-28-180 .
Thanks very much for the info , much appreciated! I don't suppose you know anything about the a/c type? Thanks again :ok: |
You're quite welcome.
Nothing's been posted as to type. However, Asian Spirit uses Dash-7 and CN-235's mostly. |
Acc to Philstar it was a BAe 146.
http://www.philstar.com/philstar/NEWS200511159904.htm This type is the only jet they have at the moment. Think they obtained two of them. other fleet comprises various props: BAe-ATP, DHC-7, CN-235, YS-11 and Let 410s |
Ready....thanks for that info! I've been wondering who the heck has been flying the 146 over my house every morning! Had an idea it might be asian spirit as they tend to operate into alot of short fields - and the 146 is good for that.

Perhaps this crew / operator should review the information in these links:
ALAR Tool Kit Resources, section 8. Managing Threats and Errors During Approach and Landing (PPT 2.7Mb) Considering that there has been several overrun accidents this year perhaps we all should revise our knowledge of wet / flooded runway operations. |
