PIA Jumbo engine clobbered at XXX
 

PIA 747 in XXX over the last few days had an engine clobbered by a baggage truck, in fact got wedged underneath. Made worse when the guy tried to reverse out. 15 inch gash in nacelle filled with foam and speed tape before being despatched to home base. Was an inspection of the mounting bolts carried out I wonder?

I have never been to airport XXX but obviously PIA have,maybe I should check their flying schedule.
PIA are well known for Gash Repair jobs to their A/C in order to return to base where labour is 10% of the cost of Europe or the U.S. I dont know the details of this story but maybe irs possible if you deactivate the Reverser and do a Core Engine Area Inspection to confirm no Engine Damage that G.E. would permit such a repair as a temporary measure. All Nacelles are double skinned and don't forget their primary purpose is to ensure that engine Fire Extinguishing agent would be effective if required. Thrust Reverser & Secondary Gaspath flow while Important are only Secondary Functions...

At XXX they are handled by engineering from another airline (at the moment), they refused to do any repair until authority was received from tech services etc for the type of repair to be done, what materials were required, what inspections were needed etc etc. So no gash repair was carried out, all necessary inspections were carried out, the reverser was locked out all iaw MM and approved documents etc etc.

However in the very near future they will be self handling at XXX now that will be a different ball game! As at the moment they are watching what is done by the engineers from the other airline (to see how it's done properly maybe!) and the suggestion was put forward to use speed tape and send it on it's way! Which was politely declined, I'm told.

Apparently, PIA have asked the two airlines who look after their fleets at XXX to carry on as their own engineering are not up to the job just yet.

One of them has said "no thanks":ouch:

You might well find both have!:D

Well has anybody thought about discussing , the great driving abilities of the supposedly well trained ground staff at xxx . Not to mention the cost and inconvenience caused to the airline and pax because of this incident.
