IOM Closure

A couple of our crews were positioning out on this flight. The positioning crew told me that the information they were given is that something had been left in an oven and was rather burnt when it was retrieved.

They were subject to a full on emergency descent into the IOM and had landed in about ten minutes. Emergency services met the aircraft on arrival into the IOM.

The aircraft was back in the air within an hour carrying on the flight to Belfast.

The guys would like to express that the whole incident was very well handled throughout.

Hope this helps. Please note that this is third hand info from a colleague at work and I can only pass on what he said.

It was a busy day indeed at IOM. The 1st emergency being the Flybe that landed having reported smoke in the rear galley, flight deck on oxygen etc, a/c stopped on runway whilst they decided what to do (with the wind 90 degrees from the left) Full fire service in attendence and airfield closed.
Second incident later that day, a Bandit, KeenAir I think, called Mayday with an engine failure and subsequent return, and not a nice wx day either! Well done guys.

Does burnt offerings in the rear galley oven constitute an emergency?

Burnt offerings

Engineer - a fairly tongue in cheek contribution I'm sure, however the smoke wasn't traced to burnt offerings until after the aircraft was shut down on the runway after landing.

Suffice to say the flight deck had deemed the smoke hazard sufficient to require them to go onto oxygen masks. Anything which could result in a fire situation in an enclosed aluminium tube can never be handled lightly.

Well handled by all concerned.

engine failure in a bandit? Yuk, barely climbs on 2!

outofsynch 16th Mar 2005 20:28

KTT - you obviously havent flown a Bandit, or you havent flown it properly!

Just a technicality Barry but we are not actaully closed. Just the Vis/cloud is such that it is outside limits for most if not all operators. Still a few departures going !!

Don't want you to give the impression that we have shut shop and gone to the pub!!:ok:
