Please excuse my ignorance, but it looks like a tarmaced surface (the taxiway?) gave way under the wieght of the aeroplane in this case - that shouldnt happen, right?

Per the FAA preliminary incident reports, the aircraft, whilst taxiing, went into the safety area and got stuck in the asphalt.
